I think you did everything just fine, with the exception of the ever elusive 'wow' factor. You did a good job with the selective desat, and you captured a nice exposure with decent sharpness and lots of detail, but IMHO the image lacks sufficient pop to get the higher scores. I'm giving it a 7 for now.

This is a nice exposure with excellent detail and a good range of tones, but the composition is too cluttered and static for my taste. Maybe a wider view might have worked better. Another thing you might want to consider would be adding some people to the composition. The addition of a skipper and a mate or two, messing around on deck with lines and other sailor stuff, might result in a much more interesting photo.

Well now, this is interesting. The swirling lines and colors make a wonderful out-of-the-box abstract. I wonder if it would have been even better with the white'ish areas replaced with the reflection of a deep blue sky.

Anyway, congrats on a nice image! High marks from me.

The complimentary colors add a bit of interest, but not enough for really high marks IMHO. Maybe a cleaner, more dynamic composition would help.
