Found this in my front yard. Walked right by the bush and the mama bird scared the bejesus out of me when she took off.

I am a Photoshop novice, and this is the most editing I have done so far.

Cropped
Copied eggs to new layer. (double checked and I think this is legal)
Desatureated background and adjusted color balance.
Lowered brightenss and added contrast to the eggs.
Lowered brightness and added contrast to rest of image.

::: Critique Club :::

Hi, my name is Kari and from the critique club. Unusual to draw the same person in one night .. so I hope this is helpful.

First Impression - the most important one:
I am a huge fan of selective desat .. but I do like to learn and try these things as well .. I think you done goood here ... I agree with one of your other commentors that it is just missing the WOW factor. This does not mean it is not a good shot.

Composition:
Well done ... the eggs are nicely playing the lower thirds .. and the desat brings my eyes into them nicely.

Subject:
meets the challenge ...

Technical (Colour and light):
as above .. the desat worked ... it does not seem as sharp as it could .. but this may be the DOF that you are using.

To grow its vote?:
it lacks the big wow factor .. so would only be a great portfolio shot ...

Summary:
Well done .. you are really doing well .. two high scores in two challenges.

If you've got any questions about this critique, please feel free to contact me via the PM system.

Cheers

Kari

I love selective desat and these two colors go good together. Nice entry. 10.

not sure if the surrounding is naturally that color or you caused them to be sepia toned...nice photograph

I like how you have taken this in sepia, but colored the eggs.....

The selective sepia doesn't really do it for me here. I like the framing with the leaves but I think it'd be stronger if they were in focus as well.

I think you did everything just fine, with the exception of the ever elusive 'wow' factor. You did a good job with the selective desat, and you captured a nice exposure with decent sharpness and lots of detail, but IMHO the image lacks sufficient pop to get the higher scores. I'm giving it a 7 for now.

Arer they realy blue? it does just not look right and thats why i don't like it ... maybe if everything was in color then the blue eggs would not bother me but they doo with all this brown around them.

The selective coloring is just so right for this image, so pretty. The blue of the eggs looks perfect nestled in the sepia...very nice.

Great use of selective saturation. The sepia tone works really well. Goo detail and the off center of the eggs really hepls make this shot. Well done and bumping up.

Nice setting, I like the decision for the eggs to stand out in color, but I would like to see what this would look like as B & W (with blue eggs of course), somehow I feel the brown sepia tones just don't compliment the cyan blue.

Very good use of a selective desat, love the almost glow you have created on the eggs. Great composition, very nice! 8
