Oak Tree in Snowby visaksenComment: This is a pretty clear shot of your subject. I think, for me, it's lacking in tone a bit. There doesn't appear to me to be much variation in the b/w scale compared to some of the other shots. Also, I think the subject and composition are hurt by all the branches and other wood in the foreground and in back of the subject. I hope this is helpful. |

Fern on Graniteby soupComment: I really like the composition and idea on this shot. I would have scored it a point higher if there had been a little more detail in the darker leaves. I think you did a good job on the background with this and overall I like it alot. |

Rose on Woodby stormyComment: This is a lovely b/w shot. The focus, to me, seems just a bit on the softer side and I think I would prefer it to be sharper. I probably would have played around a bit more with the composition, but I like this as well. It looks to me like you've lost a bit of the detail in the upper petals, and the flower doesn't really "jump" out at me as the viewer. All that being said, I still like the shot very much. Hope this is helpful. |

The Pondby KathycComment: I really like the tones in this shot, and the reflection is great. It's a good, clear shot, but something about the composition and subject is lacking for me. I'm not sure what it is. There's a lot going on in the photo, and the b/w probably makes it appear busier than it really is because of the similar tones throughout. In color, my eye would have some natural "sections" of the photo on which to focus. It looks like a pretty spot, but I'm not sure if I think it's the best location for b/w. I still scored this pretty high because I thought you did do a good job with the b/w tones, and for the clarity of the shot. Hope this is helpful. |

Blues FMby aznymComment: Hello from the critique club. It's been quite awhile since I pulled up a photo to critique. If I keep getting ones like this, I'll have to do it more often :)
I really like the composition and the way your subject seems to pop out from the rest of the photo. Catching him in the middle of a song, playing and singing, makes the subject stronger than if he was just sitting with the guitar. I almost feel like the viewer is his audience.
The background does seem a bit busy for the challenge, but not for the photo as it stands alone. The colors and activity in the background give a great feel of putting the subject in context. The background is bright, yes - but details are still visable, even at the end of the street. I think it adds some liveliness to the shot.
I have a great pair of gloves like that for playing cold-weather guitar also (great for winter photography as well!)
Overall, an excellent job of a candid, photojournalistic photo. I don't think I'd change a thing.
Hope this is helpful!

Oak Tree On A Snowy Dayby AlainComment: This is my highest rated "tree" shot for the challenge. Pretty good tones and a nice choice of tree / location. |

Urban Bridgeby bobdaveantComment: Very nice tones and great composition. I'm just not all that interested in the subject, but I don't know how it could be improved on. I think the shot itself is done very well. |

Pohaturoaby seriocomicComment: Really nice tones to this shot. I think I would have liked a little less centered composition and more room at the top of the photo, above the hill. As it is, though, it's still one of my top 10 picks. |
