rusted lock, sodden groundby wavelengthComment: Greetings from the Critique Club
An unusual view of a lock and weather-worn door. It's a relief to see your interpretation of the subject; usually such shots tend to be straight on and boring. This one has interest. It also has grain, the object of the Challenge.
Your attention to detail in the processing of this image also adds to the mystery and uniqueness.
You were quite well rewarded by the voters for your image and I too, can only say, "well done!" |

You have an image that perfectly meets the challenge and that employs a classic compositional theme. The subjects' hands are sweetly posed. I very much like the background with its out of focus element of mystery.
There is little left for me to critique.
Wish you had placed higher, but your score is certainly an acceptable one and you certainly can be pleased with your image.
Keep up the good work. |

I'm delighted to have the chance to study this image in detail.
It's beautiful, of course, and you were properly rewarded by the voters for finding this scene and interpreting it so very well. The sense of isolation, and yet warmth, conveyed by this image is excellent.
I know you folks in Iceland experience a lot of dark time at this end of the calendar year; you've studied the darkness and learned well how to use it.
(When I visited your beautiful country, it was July and all was sunshine and light.)
Keep up the good work. I hope to see you on the Front Page again. |

Fragrant Colors of Fallby ankit0621Comment: Greetings from the Critique Club
One of the fun things about the Critique Club is that when I push the button, I never know what image is going to come up on the screen. When I saw this one, it was an immediate "ohhh! Nice."
I very much like the contrast between the blue sky reflection and the green trees & floating stuff. Yes, some of your comments say the blue is a little over the top, and perhaps it is. Nevertheless, the contrast is pleasing.
The two thoughts I have on this:
First - Border patrol. The bits of branches to the lower left and right and the 1/8th of a yellow leaf at the bottom work against this nice image. If you could try for a slightly different angle, it would help a good deal.
Then - compositionally, your image is very nearly half 'n half blue and green. It's tough for a viewer to decide which is more important to look at. (do you want to emphasize the tree/shoreline, or the blue sky?) So, usually, after a brief struggle, the viewer just moves on. Not what you want to have happen.
I enjoyed looking at your image and wish you continued success at DPC. You're doing fine. |

3rd Bday, 20 kids, 20 moms, 1 Pinata, 2 feet to work with... 10mm Priceless!!!!!!!by moonjeongComment: Greetings from the Critique Club
What a cute picture of lots of little kids enjoying themselves. It'll be a welcome addition to the family scrapbook for sure.
You caught the candy falling and the anticipation of the children well. The wide-angle lens can be difficult to work with and you might take it out and really work with it a lot to see just what you can do with it. In this instance, you might try getting really close to the ground and shooting up. YOu'll still get the kids - and you will make them bigger and more important - and you might have a better chance at that pinata. (I have the 10-22mm lens and know how frustrating it can be with a close-up)
My advise here is to just keep shooting and practicing. You have a good eye.
I notice you are new to DPC. You are in for a super experience and will learn lots here. Welcome to the Club! I'll look forward to seeing more of your work. |

Arrow_5708.jpgby FotoMunkiComment: Excellent interpretation of that "cupid's arrow" which is very difficult to do well. (The thing is so big!) Especially like the Ferry Building clock tower positioning.
Good one. I may have to make this a Favorite! |

Kookaburra Up Above in Down Underby BowerbirdComment: Greetings from the Critique Club
Awww, what a cutie!
I know how hard it is to get birds in the first place and getting them in focus is even more difficult. This little guy could stand to be a bit sharper. However, you did get the catchlight in his eye, and that's very, very good.
I think someone commented on the center composition here. You might try different crops of this image. Perhaps cropping the right side of the frame almost to the bird, and then the top about 1/2 way from the present framing to the bird's head. That might give the Kookaburra a better perch from which to be seen. But try various crops to see how each one would affect the composition.
You have a very good start here, and I expect you had fun getting this image. I'll look forward to seeing more of your work here at DPC. |
