Greetings from the Critique Club

Wow! Fabulous photo, but did you ever get chastised by the voters for singling out Frank without other folks in the frame.

Certainly the composition is excellent; the expression on your model's face is perfect. Since it is a PhotoJournalism type of shot, I don't see anything the matter with the highlights here and there. But, of course, I couldn't really advise you on them anyhow as you left your settings blank.

About all I can do is sympathize with you for having a great photo that voters didn't seem to think met the challenge. In wandering through your portfolio, I see you have other fine people images and a rather unique way of presenting them. So, my only suggestion is to keep up your fine sense of originality.

I do think your original work can do well in DPChallenge. The best work here often is unusual.

Good luck in your future challenges.

greetings from the Critique Club

Are you a member of the Critique Club? Well, if so, it's your turn!
;>)

You nailed the Challenge but didn't receive very good marks (to say the least) I don't know your camera, but have no quarrel with your EXIF data. The girl is sharp. I'd say she was more troubled than yearning, and that may have turned the female audience away as I think most of us (females) would have read her expression that way. The grotesque foreground works for veracity; it doesn't work for sympathy. That turns a bunch of other voters away. There are (well you know there are) some artifacts in the right foreground that are difficult.

Still, kiwiPix, I like this image a lot. So, while it didn't turn the voters 'on,' it, depending on circumstances, could end up in a gallery somewhere. So don't throw this very exciting image out. It's a slice of life that says something that needs to be said about society. Hecks bells, you could write a book about what's being said in this image.

Okay, that's enough philosophy for tonight.

Best regards,
Alice

This would be a terrific image if it was a bit more in focus.

That enhanced blue color on the Jay really sets the bird off.

Nicely composed close-up shot could be just a little sharper.
