The rose seems to lift itself out of the picture when set against the out of focus trees. Very effective. I think I would have cropped it a little tighter.

The effect is disconcerting to say the least. The shallow DOF adds to the unsettling effect of the magnified eye and enhances the unsettling effect.

The difference in focus setts the foreground plant off well. The difference in lighting contributes even more to the separation.

This is a clever idea, but it would seem that 78 is as worthy of respect (sharp focus) as 2.

I like the oranges against the out-of-focus abstract background. IMHO cropping out the whole right-hand part of the picture would improve it dramatically.

A brilliant shot of the car, especially with the hood up and door open. But the overall focus is too sharp for the challenge, which wants some parts of the photo to be out of focus (shallow DOF).

I like the lacy texture of the ice against the almost leathery texture of the leaf. The out-of-focus background sets the central subject off well.

That snow looks almost like a plush cushion. This photo is effective, and the differential focus is noticeable without being pushy.
