To me they look like geese (or even dinosaurs) floating in a sea of snow. The are park benches mostly buried after a nightime snow dumping. The light whispy stuff you see is snow blowing around as the wind gusts heavily. It was actually bright sunlight out.

Most will probably not find this meets the topic. It was taken using my Sigma 70-300mm F4-5.6, close to it's maximum focal legnth and at 5.6 to get the DOF I wanted. So technically, it qualifies. It's just not a picture of a ruler.

Shot in RAW, and underexposed on purpose (to retain the definition in the snow) and further underexposed in the RAW conversion.

In PS7: UNCROPPED. Levels, greyscale, used healing patch to clone out a messy part of the snow, D&B mostly around the edges, and a little on the snow. Resized, USM, Gaussian blur in overlay mode (20%), border.

This is one of my favorite images I have ever taken. It will probably bomb. LOL.

You have managed to please almost all of the really great photographers on this site with this image - as consolation for not getting a deserved ribbon - well, it's more than that, isn't it? great list of comments there.

This is lovely. I can't really give you much of a critique though. I just love the simplicity of the photo. Excellent work :)

Marvellous image - PS'd to highlight the benches, or a genuine moment of light? Just curious: either way this scores very high. Reminiscent of something, or rather of someone's work ... though I'd have to look that up. Top photo - reallly really good. And best inchallnge from me.

If I were pressed to criticize this wonderful photo, I'd wish for a less distinct background (greater DoF) and a greater expanse for the three invisible graces (or winter fairies) to view. I do feel the exposure is quite good considering the difficulty under such conditions. The blowing snow, undulating shadows as well as the brightly lit padding on top of the chairs, each, are poignantly there.

Overall, the capture is unique, alive with wind and air (despite the dead of winter) and artistically satisfying. It is one of my two favourite choices in this challenge. God help those who fail to be stirred by it. ;-)

I adore this shot. Composition is superb, as is the black and white. Subject is great; this is gallery material my friend! 10

I wouldn't call this a shallow field of snow. I am from Michigan so I know! Also, Your DOF doesn't look all that shallow. In fact it almost looks PS'd in. Don't get me wrong, I really like this shot on it's own merits, but it doesn't do as well with this challenge topic.

I like this, but it doesn't seem to be the best representation of shallow DOF. It's relatively shallow I guess. Nice tones though.

Wonderfull place and composition. Snowman as designer. And I think you made the best to make it fit the challenge. Good luck.

Great shot...

That snow looks almost like a plush cushion. This photo is effective, and the differential focus is noticeable without being pushy.

Beautiful contrast ! The use of b/w makes this photo work ! I like how the subject is the leading line. DOF is perfect. This is so eye pleasing and full of impact ! 10

Cool (so to speak) snow effects! DOF not pronounced as some, but nice shot none the less. Good job.

Sure looks like a miserable place to sit, but the problem is, no real shallow DOF.

I love this image! The clarity of the three benches nicely contrasts with the blurry souroundings. The tones are deep and stunning.

Looks like my backyard. Very good scene, good composition. DOF works well here, though it is minimally applied.

All I can say is WOW! This is such a beautiful black and white. The symmetry is incredible and I love the blankets of snow. Good luck with this one.

Great use of repetition resulting in a really quirky image. Doesn't seem to be a very shallow DOF here though.
