Canal promenadeby geewhyComment: I keep coming back to this wonderful shot--I wish you had used it in the Impressionism challenge!
I just bought a set of clear cokin filters to try this without having to hold something in front of my lens. But in my previous experiments, I've never gotten the wonderful smudging of colors you got here. Any tips? How thick was your layer of Vapo Rub? Is that different than Vasoline in its light properties? Did you smear it unevenly? |

bluefish_filtered.jpgby BrookiedComment: Nice shot, pretty fish. I think the glass is causing small distortions which come across as reducing sharpness, similar to the way chromatic abberations can reduce sharpness. I am not sure how you filtered this, but perhaps more experimentation might clear it up. In addtion, you can see the fish's tail there's some movement blur, so higher shutter speeds would be helpful. |

Family Hugby ali626Comment: Great candid capture, the colors and smiles work really well here. So nice of you to tell the family and send them the photo. This really should have finished higher. I think something that might help a little is to crop a bit more off the left, putting them further off center. I know that sounds like a canned response using the rule of thirds, but if you hold you hand over the left side of the shot almost to the people I think you'll see it gains an interesting balance. Also, try just a tad more sharpening (USM or sharpen edges) after reducing for upload.
And thanks so much for your comments on my recently uploaded abstract. |

Taillight Trioby BradComment: I like the geometry here, and like the lighting in the back as it plays off the curves. I see two things that might have made it better to me:
1) Crop the right, it seems unbalanced past the tree. I suggest just to the right of the right edge of the main tree that's lit on the left. That puts the tree towards the upper right corner, and the arcs more or less defining the bottom left corner. Some balance.
2) Consider cloning out the white reflectors in the road. |

IMG_5308 - tree and church - small.jpgby thatcloudthereComment: Pluses: Nice tones, good angle on church facade. Footpath leads into photo.
Issues: some snow near the steps looks overexposed, the tree obstructs the view of the church, and it might have been better to pick an angle where they are not overlapping. |

Lazy Sunday Afternoon IIby cheekymunkyComment: This is better composed than your winning shot. The light and colors are in general better, but the use of the pink filter is a bit too obvious here as it covers part of the sand. Still, I like this one better. It would be interesting to see if it would have won though given the more obvious use of the filter and the placement issue. |

Sliding Impressionby vtruanComment: Didn't get a chance to comment on this during the challenge, but I really like it. Nice use of motion blur, great colors. It was one of my 9's. Regards--Neil |
