It's not all about the votes though. I'm mostly happy if I get one positive comment from a shot.
Yo_Spiff seems to sometimes talk about submitting shots that appeal to a certain sub-culture of DPC, and I think he's happy when they respond to the shot. I'm not sure if I'd feel comfortable doing that yet though.

I was really hoping I'd see a baby owl in this challenge -- I've intentions to get an owl in the distant future. They're beautiful creatures, and you've captured this very well.

Nice shot. Composition and layout wise.
I was going to say that aesthetically the people in the background detract from the shot... which they do. But, I noticed they are babies just now, which is a nice touch... so inspectually (which isn't a word) they add to it.
