Exit Music by Ian Rankin

Comment:
Initial Reaction: An organ...
Suitability for Challenge Topic: It seems this book is about a Russian poet found dead in Scotland. By a retiring detective. Ok, so sure, organs are used at funerals, but... That's a pretty weak connection.
Aesthetic: Lint on keys, and a bit dark overall. Nice DOF.
Needs Work: Exposure, concept
Final Thoughts: Not a bad image, just the wrong challenge, or book choice.
Score: 4

"Airport" by Arthur Hailey (1968)
by HarveyG

Comment:
Initial Reaction: I like aerial photography. Don't really like the inclusion of the cockpit/instrument panel.
Suitability for Challenge Topic: It's an airport. I do not see snow, and don't really feel this captures the spirit of the book.
Aesthetic: The only thing that makes this more than a snapshot is the fact that you're in the air. Otherwise, I see nothing different from this or simply poking a camera out the car window while driving.
Needs Work: Concept
Final Thoughts: Ends up seeming like a snapshot, with little substantial connection to the chosen book.
Score: 4

Go tell it to the mountain ~ James Baldwin

Surely you mean "Go tell it on the Mountain"?

If that's the case, then your image doesn't at all fit the book as far as I can see....

Really nice image though, tad oversharp on the foreground mountain ridges, but overall very nice.

4, because it is a really nice image, but unfortunately doesn't meet the challenge well, and has some minor processing flaws.

Ever read a novel? They're a bit different than poetry collections. ;)

Image is good. Love the figure on the floor looking out the window.

Love the reason for the image much less, it seems like this could have been so much more if only attributed to a different book.

Cute.

But totally wrong - why not go with Vonnegut's "Galapagos" or something like that?

Seriously, the book was set in Alaska, and was about dog sled teams and wolves, and men.... This doesn't speak to that.

..

Nice image though. Very well shot and well processed. I'll give you a 4 for sheer image quality.

"The Great Gatsby" Remembered
by beatabg

Comment:
Hmm... What's up with the weirdness of the dress? Almost looks like you pasted her in.

And why is everything all soft and weird? It's like there's a glow effect that I would likely expect in a baby's portrait...

In any case, the opulence of the novel would never have included such a scene with the old well worn (and lovely) car, and dirty barn/garage.

I can't help but think this was very close to the mark, but missed it entirely.

Processing taken into account, and the lack of a real fit or story here, I feel that a 4 is appropriate.

Pretty sure that's a goose.

Processing seems harsh, and we now have a grey goose. Now I need a drink. ;)

Seriously though, the book is about anything but a black goose. I'm sure you'll find an explanation for my outlier vote of 3. ;) (reference to novel... Hope you get it)

Bumping to 4. In context it is better than I first found it to be.

Am I missing the story here?

Is this a clever comment on catching those before they fall? Who is the man in the print in the cloth?

What is going on here?

...

I'm afraid that you've failed to engage me, this image doesn't speak to me in any way, and all I see is a strange grouping of images that have little or nothing to do with the book.

Can't find a novel by this name, nor does this strike me as a quote.

Image is also rather mundane. composition is the strongest point here - but the tilted horizon affects even that.

This seems to be just lazy. You could have at least chosen a novel that was reasonably applicable to the image. Maybe something from Douglas Adams....

Really, it's not even a great street photo, it's ok for sure, and she's somewhat interesting, but I just can't find any real love for this image.

1 - sorry, but there's just nothing to redeem this one for me.
