I think this one may have fared better with a 1x1 crop. I do like the image just not the crop :) |

(Know that I only vote in even numbers.)
A four for you. A clever composition that wants to be abstract. The lighting is dull, though, and the impact just isn't there. |

Based on the plot summary (I haven't read the book) there is no apparent connection to this crime novel, only a literal reference to its title. The shot is well detailed and moodily exposed and I like the POV to add some instability/tension - but this old organ has me thinking more Broadway theatrical horror (as in Phantom of the Opera) than modern Welsh noir thriller. 5 |

simple, straightforward but in a knowing smile sort of way.

Initial Reaction: An organ...
Suitability for Challenge Topic: It seems this book is about a Russian poet found dead in Scotland. By a retiring detective. Ok, so sure, organs are used at funerals, but... That's a pretty weak connection.
Aesthetic: Lint on keys, and a bit dark overall. Nice DOF.
Needs Work: Exposure, concept
Final Thoughts: Not a bad image, just the wrong challenge, or book choice.
Score: 4 |

4...I'm not familiar with the story, but I just don't find this image very engaging. I think my main problem is the light...it could use more pizazz. It looks like it's being lit with an old school fluorescent tube. |

Good close up, well lit and exposed but soulless, static 4 |

I don't get a feel of a crime novel. I like the aged look, but feel that it could be a tad brighter. A 5 from me. |

Nice close up of the organ, not much connected to the novel that I know unless that is a Scottish organ produced by Russian businessmen, but I've only read the plot summary. 5. |

Not a clear tie to the book, except for the title. The layout and DOF are nice, and the tones very realistic, but it doesn't wow me. 5 |

I an one of a few that have taken on theâ Comment on every vote challengeâ. I will post the score I gave you then try to explain my reasons for said vote. Hopefully nothing below will be taken personally, and maybe we can both learn from it..
I hate to be one of âthoseâ people, but I hardly call a 2007 novel a classic. Nice shot of the piano, and on a different challenge? On this one a 4 hopefully others donât know the timeline. |

Simple. I like it, but maybe a little different angle would have made it a stronger image.
Gave it a 5 |

Good title.
The angle is a little too steep for me. But I like the DOF and the detail that's involved.
Gave it a 6 |

Have to admit my total ignorance concerning this book. I just searched the title (quite a nice one) and yes, I did hear about inspector Rebus though. In the absence of any connection that i can make with the book, I just look at the image but I have little to appreciate about it, save for a lovely hue

Lovely lighting and narrow depth of focus. Not sure on the choice of vertical composition though, wish it was more angular. |

I find most closeups of object very dull and this is no exception. Those odd buttons are intriguing, though, so I'll give you a point for that. 3 |
