Love Affairby gyabanComment: Very engaging, bird interaction shot. You took this in very harsh midday sunlight yet you have managed to get shadow detail despite the high shutter speed, indicated by the stop motion on the water splash. Focus on the eyes is crisp. It feels unlevel, falling off to the right and perhaps a tad too central in composition. Nonetheless, I think it would be published albeit with an improved crop and rotation. |

Breeding Season in the Gannet Colonyby hicksComment: I too wanted to movie frame my entry. I opted out. NG might have a black border below the image for text, but not top and bottom. Having said that, this type of shot is very common in NG. I battled to determine how sharp it was, even looking at it on 3 different monitors. I think it isn't as crisp as it could be, we are spoiled on DPC, but I don't think it is OOF or blurred, just maybe need a higher s/s. Still the sky is natural, the busy colony activity is interesting and it could be used in conjunction with a story. |

St Saviour's Church - Est. 1862by Delta_6Comment: The overcast day has certainly helped with an even and well balanced exposure. The POV is good. It must have just rained as the water is visible below the balustrade and this has helped improve tonal range and richness of the stone. I'm not fond of the sky, perhaps we are biased by DPC HDR land and cityscapes. As a record keeper it's good and has a fair chance of publication, however a pastor on the stairs greeting his congregation would certainly be more engaging and maybe get to home base. |

Young Buckby BastaComment: This UWA shot of the deer does make for an unusual and not oft seen perspective, when traditionally a prime 3/4/5/600mm or high quality zoom is used to shoot animals. It shows the animal clearly, in soft light and the smallish aperture big DOF allows the viewer to see more of the animals environment. I'm not sure it is engaging enough for publication, and this decision rests on the publishers brief to the tog and the relevance to the text. 50/50? |

I Be a IBISby JarHeadComment: Fair focus, nice light. Is it engaging or eye catching enough to be published is what you have to ask yourself. |

Rain Forest Canopy Artby PennyStreetComment: Beside the NG yellow box, there's nothing to tie me to typical NG photography. It looks more like Porcupine Quills than a forest. |

Arizona Meteor Crater by tangueraComment: This is a fabulous image. Breathtaking. It oozes NG quality. They have always pushed the boundaries and taken photography to new levels, always seeking a new angle or vantage point. From the zig zag of the riverine forested river to the left, the hand of man roads, clouds for depth, and the lovely shadow and 3D accentuation of the crater. Top marks. I hope you aren't getting nailed by the "It's not a Lion, baby seal, African Tribe" crowd...Even if you got lucky on a flight from A-Z, it's bloody hard to shoot through a porthole without some form artefacts, aberration and distortion. This would be the only reason I see why SC made this challenge Advanced and not Basic Editing. To allow the photographer some leeway in PP to get his shot NG-Like. |

Reducktionsby sinistral_leoComment: You've certainly pulled back the red in this. Why I don't know. The exposure is at least half a stop OE and the entire image suffers from it, is washed out, has blown highlights on the feathers and bland. The mallard is too central for my liking but he at least appears crisp and sharp and in a natural environment with a nice reflection. The catchlight also appears as if he is looking at you. I don't think it would be published however, sorry! |

The Family Rush by AllenPComment: Superb shot. The sudden activity of the foal and perhaps also the parent behind it has startled the birds. You have captured this moment well. The triangle formed between all three bison, plus the motion of the birds give life to a still image. I think it would be published in NG. |
