Growing Up by jenaromComment: challenge met. what a great idea :) some may tell you that the adult should have bare legs and feet, too, but i liked the added contrast by him/her being dressed. great clarity and skin color, your lighting is a tad uneven (dark to the right) and i would leave just a smidgen more room at the bottom, but it is a great shot regardless. :) |

Past, Present and Futureby SharQComment: i'm sure you meet the challenge (you wouldn't have submitted otherwise), but i really don't get it. part of the reason is that the photo is very dark on my monitor i think. i can see a crushed can on the left (is that meant to be the past?) wondering how you got the C on the right can to stand out like that ... will check back on monday to see your description :) |

Cereal Killers (Cannibal Corn)by GeneralEComment: challenge met, although i had to look for a couple of seconds to get it. i like the idea and the composition of the corn in the shells is good, too, however, i think your shot could benefit from more contrast and less of a yellow hue. maybe even a simpler background w/out pattern. |

Cottageby GotchaComment: challenge met. what a great picture of the house with all the vine growing on it, the hayball hanging up, and the colorful flowers in the foreground. i can see that you made plenty of use of the relaxed rules this week. :) i kind of like the edges that look like the whole photo has been painted in broad brushstrokes onto the page. to be honest, though, i don't quite understand why you added all those little "twists" to the photo. for me, they don't add anything and actually take away from a pretty photo. but ... that's just personal opinion, and i'm sure you get comments for and against this :) |

Wall of Windowsby NatashaComment: challenge met. what a wonderful abstract, the b&w works so well, and you have achieved a very nice tonal range. i like the curves running through the photo and the different grids, separated in places by the black shadows. there are only two nitpicky suggestions i have (and they are indeed nitpicky/personal preference). first, i would've cropped a little off the top to get rid of that wider band of black at the top right. second, i would've used a one pixel black border and then the white border to have more separation between the white border and the light (but not totally white) parts of the photo. regardless, your entry this week is in my top picks :) |

Inspiredby PtmanComment: challenge met. nice photo, i like it a lot. the angle and crop is very nice, and almost makes me feel dizzy. lots of lines leading you through the shot. the lighting also looks very nice and even, this must've been taken on an overcast day. which is what makes the sky look a little too blue. i suspect that you took advantage of the editing freedom of this challenge. :) i personally think having the sky blue (but not that blue) or even a real sky with subtle clouds to make it look less uniform would've worked better. your photo is still amongst my top picks :) |

Helical Illumination by crabappl3Comment: challenge met. i think you have a winner here, although you might have some competition from the other photo of the same or similar subject. i like that you cropped part out of the overall spiral and turned this into a picture of curves. i like the (mostly) blue shades of the stainglass windows and the reflections on the wall in some of the places. the warm tones of the wall are great, too. the only thing i would've considered changing is that i might have cropped the bottom a little more, i think that would balance the photo even better, there's really nothing of interest down there. great photo! :) |

Window & Lightby KathycComment: challenge met. i'm assuming that you were going for the more abstract look here, and you got close. b&W works well for that , and you have achieved very nice black in the background. there are a couple of things that you've probably included deliberately (cracks, powerlines), that i personally find a bit distracting. most of all the trees that are visible at the bottom of the window, they detract from the abstractness (is there such a word?) of it all i think. sorry. |

Cafe Iguanaby jenaromComment: challenge met. nice color for the wall! not a place you can easily overlook. i like what you've done from a technical point of view, the colors are good, the photo sharp, lighting is even, etc. no post-processing artifacts. i'm trying to figure out what you could've adjusted (angle/crop) to make the subject matter more unique or unusual to stand out amongst the crowds. not sure though, sorry. |

Windows & Doorby bcncrazyComment: challenge met. you've chosen quite an unusual angle for what would otherwise look like a pretty average shot, i like your approach a lot. i'm still distracted by some of the things in the shot, but i am not sure that you could've avoided them (short of taking a pic of a different building and then it wouldn't be this pic anymore ;). the railings for the stairs lead the eye to the edge of the photo and away from the stain-glass windows. the vents in the upper part are distracting, at the same time, i like the splash of color added by the yellow wall and you would loose that if you cropped out the vents. technically and from a post-processing point of view i don't really see anything that i would suggest doing differently. :) |
