Peeledby svitalComment: challenge met. i like how you filled the photo with your subject, and the decision to not crop off any of the edges of the peel, while unusual, works well here. so do the bright, vibrant colors against the nice evenly black background. the arrangement of the peel is very nice, too. the two things that i don't like as much is the glare on the orange in front, holding some paper between the lightsource and the orange could alleviate that. the other thing is the frame. it is light blue, a color that doesn't go with anything in the photo, and, worst of all, it is totally asymmetrical. i'm almost thinking light blue was your background color and you cropped the picture in a way that left it to be the same size as before and allowed the background to shine through. |

Timberby av8orboyComment: challenge met. i like the colors in this one. the blue sky behind the green tree with some of the snow and then framed by the light wood and snow. also the fact that your "after" frames your "before" works well. |

Before ..................... and .................. Afterby dimitriiComment: challenge met. what a great idea! i like that you left a lot of negative space between the pig and the salami, it really adds some tension to the photo. your angle is good, too, the only thing that i really don't like is the glare on the salami. the frame doesn't quite match in color either, but it is interesting with its "ragged" edge and doesn't disturb either. also, i think a frame was necessary here to hold everything together. just not sure what color. good entry! :) |

Pop!by chakkobboComment: challenge met. my initial reaction was to comment that there's a streak through the picture, but i think it's a movement trail. i wonder whether this is really corn popping in the pot or whether you affected it somehow. if you did the movement, maybe moving it slower might have made the streak more prominent. good idea for the photo, and good execution, too. i like how the corn is slowly getting out of focus towards the back. |

I've Bean Latte'd!!by smellyfish1002Comment: challenge met. i like your composition a lot. an unusual angle, plus the curved path through the beans is nice. although, if the glass was pushed toward someone i'd be more natural for it to look straight ... but i guess it works for the photo. i like the separation of layers in your latté, and your focus of the beans getting less sharp in the back is great. i also like that you filled the whole backgroud with them. basically, i really don't have any areas for improvement. :) |

Rising Tallby timj351Comment: challenge met. nice idea to contrast the new bridge with the old crumbled building. i also like that the building is darker, helping to set the two apart. of course a blue sky would be nice (even nicer if we could control the weather ;). the one thing that i would consider doing differently that is within your control is to crop a little more off the left side to eliminate the neg space at the top left that i don't feel adds anything to the shot. nice shot overall :) |

Delicate Extractionby spidermanComment: challenge met, although i really don't think this is the delicate way ;) this is a creative idea and technically a very sound photo. your lighting is nice and even, and your focus spot-on. i like it. i also like how the egg yolk ended up right in the middle of the shot, kind of connecting the two halves. what distracts me a little is the creased background and the slight highlights on it. i know this is a messy thing, but instead of a plastic bag maybe a large sheet of paper or thin cardboard that you can toss afterwards would've been more suitable. overall a really nice photo :) |

Craftsmanshipby AzrifelComment: sorry i didn't get around to this challenge to vote and comment, but i just had to say i love the detailed information you've put in your photographer's comments. it's so interesting to read (a) about what you are looking at in the photo and (b) what went through the photographer's mind when planning and executing the photo and why he/she did this that and the other. i wish others would do more of that. thanks :)
oh, and on your photo, you have a great subject, and you took a technically sound photo. i like it. considering spot-editing was allowed (and is outside of the dpc challenges anyhow), did you consider cropping it into almost a vertical panorama by removing the right window (you have to clone a bit of it out so as to not crop too close to the flag). that might look good, too, because then you have just the little decorations on the left kind of working their way up to the flag. either way, good photo! :) |

Bread and Toastby jab119Comment: LOL, this could be my hubby's breakfast. when we started dating i used to complain that he used a papertowel for a plate. must be a bachelor thing. ;) i like the contrast between the bread and the toast, i think that would've been even further emphasized if you had skipped the butter. also, a different color background to make the papertowel stand out a bit more would've been nice. overall, still a good idea for this challenge :) |

Wine over Timeby kevinswopeComment: challenge met. i had something very similar in mind for this challenge, i'm glad i didn't submit it, because yours is way better :) i like the setup, how the before and after are connected by the 2nd wineglass being partially behind the first and in front of the first candle. the candles are a nice addition that suggest passage of time. the one thing that i would've maybe tried differently is to use red wine. it would go better with the candles. good job. |
