Areas for improvement I see are (a) a more neutral background if possible, (b) get lower, down to the eye-level, and (c) if you have horizontal lines running through your picture, make sure they are indeed horizontal. Nevertheless, a good shot! |
| 05/29/2002 09:37:00 AM | The Gardenerby sulamkComment: I really like the pose and how your camera is almost level with the gardener's head. If he had turned his head to more face the camera (or alternatively, if you had moved further to the left, if that was possible), this would be a much stronger shot, because then his eyes would be visible, and that's whas the viewer usually connects with. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 05/29/2002 01:26:00 PM | The Lady Potterby sammi68Comment: Cool shot, I don't usually like photographs that "look down" on people, but somehow that actually works well here. B&w is a good choice, the face is crisp and stands out well. One thing I would consider is cropping the left and bottom a little more, there's too much empty foreground IMO. |
| 05/28/2002 11:39:00 AM | ...by ReubenComment: Hehehe, funny one. Would it have been possible not to crop the bottom of the glasses? Also, just a little something in the top left corner would've been nice to add some direction to the shot. Nice nevertheless. |
| 05/28/2002 07:56:00 AM | Hatsby randy3yComment: Oh, man, what a great idea! A couple of things to try differently though: get lower and use backfill flash so you can see the eyes - the eyes are the most important thing to have visible and in focus in both human and animal shots - they make you connect with the subject of the photo. The background is good, expcept for the bright yellow rope on the right. |
| 05/28/2002 02:08:00 PM | Fountain shadow girlby daclozerComment: Now there's an interesting take on the people challenge. I actually thought I wouldn't like something like this because it's really not the person you see, but I do like it! The picture doesn't seem to be quite level, and the one fountain that seems to be coming straight out the girl's head (or going into it), was there a way of placing her so that it didn't look like that? Good shot anyway. |
| 05/29/2002 01:30:00 PM | frustrationby mnewmanComment: The expression is priceless and I totally understand it! :) B&w works well. One thing that would have made this photo more than a quick snapshot (or that's what it appears to be) IMO is to at least turn off the lamp. Better yet, move your position a little to the left (if that is possible) so that the lamp and other dark object don't "grow" out of his head and the clutter on the bed isn't quite as visible. |
| 05/28/2002 03:37:00 PM | Andrew at the Zooby phreebyrdComment: Andrew's a cutie! I think I would've preferred the photo better if it wasn't quite as compressed (you can submit a photo of up to 150kb in size, yours is just over 30 kb) and if you had got a lower camera angle so that you'd be more on eye-level with Andrew. I love the expression on his face. |
| 05/29/2002 01:28:00 PM | Lunch Time at the Gas Stationby tydComment: Did you know that person? If yes, I would've asked him to move to a different table so that his reflection is not cut off by the poster. That would also have given more visibility to his face, something I'm lacking in this photo. Other than that, I like the b&w, the angle and framing. |
| 05/28/2002 08:32:00 AM | Leavingby GordonComment: Wow, either this place isn't very popular or you bribed everyone to stay out of the shot. I like it a lot. Great composition, title works well. If only the guy had been focused - that would've been better IMO, but I understand you may have actually been going for the slightly out of focus effect. |
