this shot could've benefited from sharpening, it would've brought out the texture much more. i do likethe colors and the texture in the shot, in fact, i think i would like to see more of the logo. also, was there a way of positioning this so that the TL corner would've been not just black background but more of the black fabric? -- gr8photos (3)

i'm not quite sure, is this a leaf with rolled up leaf-parts? i like the placement in the photo. and half of it either covered in ice or silver paint? to be honest, it's hard to distinguish. The right side is mainly too dark, but really, i think the whole picture could do with being lightened somewhat. curious to see your description of this when the voting is over. -- gr8photos (3)

wow, there certainly have been quite a few misses, but that adds to the texture of the metal dividers. good idea. a little too dark on the right and i think i would have placed the bullseye a little further to the left, more along the rule of thirds. but good entry for this challenge nevertheless. -- gr8photos (6)

this would work for texture, too, wouldn't it. i love lilies. it's a shame you cropped off the top of the stamen (sp?), i think having them all the way in the shot would've really added to the shot. i do like the DOF you used, having the petal in the foreground slightly blurry works well. -- gr8photos (4)

i appreciate what you are trying to do here, but your photo is not helped by the pixelation (try and save larger file, you are allowed up to 150k and you are only using 10k, also check out the tutorials on this site for more info). there's also a lot of black framing, have you considered turning this into a portrait format with less black? -- gr8photos (3)

bug acrobatics - pretty impressive. i know you have to grab these shots as the opportunity presents itself, but the background is a little distracting in the top right, especially since much of the rest is evenly white (except for the blurry leaf at the bottom). the bug is great, could be a tad more sharp i think. -- gr8photos (6)

macros are hard because the DOF becomes very shallow. if there was a way for you to increase it here it would make for a better photo. i do like the crop to just photograph part of the flower. would be good for the texture challenge, too, don't you think? -- gr8photos (4)

Just Hatched

thank you to all those who were able to look past the fact that this is 'just a bug photo' and gave me some great comments. to responde to some of them: the background was that color (plants) with sunlight poking through, hence the hotspots. the cocoons were attached to hanging ropes, hence the butterfly was actually this way up. i took a lot of photos in the butterfly house that weekend, they can be seen at //www.langpage.com/2002montreal/botanicalgarden.html
