Baseball in Flightby ColeyComment: Greetings from the Critique Club
The message
The intent of this photo is clear, and the title says it all. The contrast between the perfectly sharp ball and completely blurred background gives it a surrealistic feeling.
Creative choices
The lighting gives a nice hue to the ball that is a great contrast with the background. But it is a bit harsh on the top, so the ball's form isn't well defined there as it is on the bottom. The composition works well and the motion blur gives the intended effect.
Technical aspects
Focus and exposure are great. There are some barely noticable artifacts right below the baseball (I'm guessing where the ball support was cloned out). Also some static shadows are apparent on the moving background, although they don't detract from the illusion. |

Racing to the top!by kosmikkreeperComment: The stark contrast helps this photo convey a vivid message. I personally find the lack of a floor a bit disconcerting. |

gotta eat greensby chalconeComment: Great colors and focus. I like the sans-plate setup and the contrast of the metal fork with the food. The food styling is a bit messy, and the glare from the one bell pepper is distracting. |

Mischievousby TrollManComment: The photo shows just enough to tell a story. The background is nicely out of focus, but still somewhat distracting. |

Freedom Endangeredby chayes77Comment: A great idea that is well executed. Focus is great and acceptably sharp, although I personally would prefer it slightly sharper. |

Phloxby fisheyeComment: Great colors and shapes, but this seems rather flat. Although the petals are obviously curved, a more specular and directional light source would show off the nice forms better. |

Reflectionsby lear202btComment: My 9-year-old daughter just passed by and said "Cute duck!". I concur. Great composition, good focus, nice color, overall a pleasing image. A bit overexposed, so unfortunately some detail is lost. |

Sunset Flightby QuadrajetComment: Great use of negative space. The "fish-eyed" building and fence is a great frame of reference for the viewer, and accentuates the biker's feat. The peaceful sunset colors are beautiful, but aren't really consistent with the action of the photo, so I think the overall impact would be greater with a black and white image. |
