Greetings from the Critique Club

The message
The intent of this photo is clear, and the title says it all. The contrast between the perfectly sharp ball and completely blurred background gives it a surrealistic feeling.

Creative choices
The lighting gives a nice hue to the ball that is a great contrast with the background. But it is a bit harsh on the top, so the ball's form isn't well defined there as it is on the bottom. The composition works well and the motion blur gives the intended effect.

Technical aspects
Focus and exposure are great. There are some barely noticable artifacts right below the baseball (I'm guessing where the ball support was cloned out). Also some static shadows are apparent on the moving background, although they don't detract from the illusion.

What would this look like in b&w?

The ball is so sharp, so different in color/light, and the background so clean that it does not suggest movement to me anymore, despite the movement blur. Looks to be more an image for the smart effect.

This must bne travelling at speed, and yet it is in perfect focus. That aspect is very good but there doesn't seem to be much more interest in this picture. I don't know what you could have done. This challenge is not as easy as it seems.

Interesting idea.. the background color in this photo could possibly be more supportive of the theme... = 5

Nicely done, crisp subject and nicely blurred background. Like the contrast of cool white and warm yellows.

hmm, either you are a very fast runner, or you are a bit of a dab hand with photoshop... It's reasonably convincing though i think it might be more so if you also applied a smidgeon of blur to the ball itself - it just looks like a too perfectly well-taken shot. Still the impression of motion blur is there, and I personallu think it's a well set-up shot. 8.

very clever indeed. Did you spin a globe or something?

Impressive sharpness. Very eyecatching shot. The motion blur seems to be independent of the ball, as it is a slightly different size, and seems to carry on after the ball. I'm assuming this is due to use of a flash with a panning technique that didn't match the speed of the ball.
