Foothillsby glad2badadComment: Really like the contrast between the bright foreground and the stormy sky -- makes me want to look around for a rainbow somewhere. Good use of the HDR technique to make an image which looks "real" ... |

A Storyby heidaComment: Originally posted by AmeedEl-Ghoul: This reminds me of Charles Chaplin who came 3rd in a competition imitating Charles Chaplin :) |
In Isaac Asimov's story The Immortal Bard, William Shakespeare is brought forward in time to take a college course on whis own plays, which (of course) he flunks.
Considering the results of the Ansel Adams challenge, it seems in the top 10-15 is a "typical" finish ...
As I was scrolling through the top results, this bright bit hit me and my first reaction also was that it was the least heida-like so far ...my second that at least someone realized that a limited palette didn't equal "dark" ... ;-)
Congratulations!
FWIW, my mom knew Charlie Chaplin ... |

The Flyby tpbremerComment: Shallow DOF is fine by me, and those eyes are very bright!
Since you say he wasn't moving around, you could have tried taking multiple images with different focal planes, and then combining them in post processing to artificially increase the DOF. I've never done it, but it is one if the uses of multiple images specifically allowed under the Advanced Rules.
Still, I think those bright eyes helped get you the extra 3/4 point you scored over my bumblebee. ;-) |

Close Encounterby GeneralEComment: Thanks all for the comments! FWIW, this is the image I was trying to emulate -- I figured with all the smoke/dust/whatever the original was a little blurry too.
Here is the ashtray I used -- I took the image pretty much edge-on in SuperMacro mode (lens virtually in contact with the subject), holding it up so the bulb from an overhead light fixture was shining through the glass: Message edited by author 2009-08-31 14:43:54. |

Rafflesia Flower in full bloomby in2truthComment: It's interesting to see these things in their native habitat -- I got to see a "Corpse Flower" (another giant) from the neighboring island of Sumatra in bloom last year at the UC Botabical Garden

Time for a ribbonby ConnorComment: You're only missing the Update button, maybe where the alarm hand would point ... cool idea and good execution. |
