For this challenge, I think the face should pretty much fill the frame to emphasize the close-up effect.

I like the gradually increasing density of the spines across the frame. I know sharp focus through the entire DoF is more popular -- I think it's also appropriate here. Good job avoiding over-sharpening -- I think it would have been easy to ruin this.

For this challenge I'd have cropped way tighter -- maybe a vertical orientation with just his head and hands, none of his arms.

It looks like the focal plane ended up around the angle of the jaws. I think it would be stronger in tis case is the sharpest focus was more on the front teeth.

I'd have made this a tighter, vertical crop, so that more of his face and less of the "work" papers show, to emphasize the close-up effect. I like the lighting and expression.

Most of the hibiscus around here is pink or orange --but I like the red best.
