Thanks for all the comments, very helpful! There was something I didn’t quite like about this picture when I submitted it, however I couldn’t quite put my finger on it. That is until I got my first comment pointing out that the cropping at the bottom takes away from the overall balance. Oh well I'll know what to do next time, Thanks all.

That expression says "Chess? I thought we were going fox hunting!"

Don't lide the focus job at all . Crop not up to standards in my opinion. Sorry for the 4. PTL

Interesting. I kinda like how the front and back peices are slightly out of focus, but the center peice is well focused.

I like your use of selective depth of field, but think the composition could be improved.

fair attempt at the chess shots...the pieces aren't too interesting to look at in my opinion

Nice example of shallow DOF... I like this ... 8 ... RLS (Some people don't realize DOF includes in front of the subject as well as behind)

Framing on this photo could be better IMO. I think this was a pretty good idea, but a little more DOF and different positioning of the focal point would be beneficial. Good luck, it is a nice image - Inspzil

I think cropping off the bottom of the center piece takes away from the balance of the scene. Lighting and focus is good.
