Very interesting formations -- never seen anything quite like it. Maybe some limestone formations. Wish the branch in the lower-left foreground wasn't there, but you integrated it into the rest well.

What I find most unusual is how the brances are so unevenly distributed around the trunks. Are there strong prevailing winds in this area? Nice exposure, color, DOF.

So you're not going to upload a HiRes TIFF to the print galleries?

Seriously, so much depends on context. If you prepped that as a poster with the same caption it would not seem too out of place in a STD or family planning clinic, now would it?

I had no trouble seeing this, but think given the topic it would have been better to turn the ring, or try and hide it completely. I realize you probably wouldn't have an unmounted diamond lying around, but I think for this the ring is more a distraction from the theme, and if you could make just the diamond and coal visible would be a little stronger.

I did recognize the plant; that's why I thought it would be better if he still had his array of bright colors...the leaves can be grey or green or anything else -- they are recognizable in silhouette if at all.
Maybe you could repeat this shot when the plant's in bloom. Position him so he hides the "head" of the flower while its "crest" sticks up behind him. Then call it "Bird Of Paradise Wannabe"
(Author's edit)
Hmm...I just now read he IS grey...sorry to give you a useless suggestion! Maybe you should just airbrush him in Photoshop...

Very nice portrait, although it might have been more "cliche" to zoom out a little and catch the tongue in full extension.
I want to tweak the tones to make the head pop out a bit more from the background, but don't know if it really can be done. It has a kind of hazy look to me, like a bit of cyan cast in the shadows or something...

With that title, at least you didn't photo a kidney stone...

Love the lighting...try running this through a "Canvas" filter, add a gilt-look frame and print this.

Looks like a lot of sharpening has given this almost a painted/drawn look. If deliberate, you maybe could have gone a little further, but if you're going for photo-realism I think less sharpening would work better.
