Interesting effect -- the "subjects" are still recognizable despite the distortion. Were you shooting upwards under a power pole/tower?

I'll have to see what combination of Photoshop filters comes close to replicating this ...

I have a background in the print industry, so I'm always interested in photos of text ... exceptionally(?) narrow DOF nicely isolates the key phrase, though at first glance "Dear Friend" made me think it was a spam scam, not a thank-you.

Have fun with your new toy, and maybe buy some lead-lined gloves. :-)

My graphic-designer instinct is to say this would work well for a print ad with the space on the left for type.

My camera gives me noise like that at ISO 400, and printed photos (as in magazines) are built of nearly-visible dots of ink ... I find the quality of the composition and overall "feel" make the noise largely irrelevant or perhaps even an additional "feature".

There is a building in my neighborhood with some of these glass bricks -- they are one of my "favorite" subjects for square/rectangular shots. Excellent work to bring out all the random detail.
