I would have lightened the lighter midtones just a tad more than here, but an excellent example anyway, especially the detail in the deep shadows.

I haven't checked this with a densitometer, but I think the brightest highlights could be just a tiny bit whiter. Excellent job with the shadow and mid-tone details! I also like how this shows such a variety of terrain; water, flatlands, steep mountains, and sky. I don't know what's in the view off to the left, but maybe rotating the view a bit that way would eliminate that light patch of hillside on the right edge -- I don't think that adds much, and sometimes seems almost a distraction. I like it a lot overall.

Thanks for the comments ... looks like with a darker towel and slightly faster shutter speed this could work better. I haven't practiced much with manual shutter settings.

If I'd only spent less time (figuratively) twiddling my thumbs and more setting up the shot ...

It's certainly excellent exercise! It looks like it was pretty sunny ... I'd maybe try to brighten it up a little and/or add a little more contrast.
