| 07/26/2002 07:24:00 PM | Parchedby TomNTexasComment: Well, Texas, you're right, this is a color pic. There are huge amounts of grey that might make some think this was B&W, but the browns on the right would either be spot editted (illegal here) or heavily "played with". Here is the downside to bringing your shot to "the group's" attention. I had originally scored this shot as 7, I saw lots of texture and I wasn't certain how I would sway. Your shot is well taken, texture is clearly displayed. Framing isn't a factor. Now, you get the less objective stuff. Is this interesting (w or w/o the challenge)? Not really, unless maybe you are a geologist. Would I voluntarily come back to this photo to review it? No, not really. Would I hang this photo on my wall if given as a present? Sorry, still no. So on a photographic scale, yes, this is a 7, give or take a point. On the estetic (sp) scale, no this is more like a 4 or maybe a 5. So it cost you a point from me, in calling this shot to my attention. 6 Swash (have a nice day!) |
| 07/26/2002 03:15:00 PM | soft stonesby snowComment: Well represented texture. Overall, a good shot. I especially like the smoother rocks that reflect back at you (show you, I think). Like so many of the texture shots (mine included), I don't like the lack of punch, surprise, reason to review, etc. Started you as a 6, but it's really better than that. 7 Swash |
| 07/26/2002 01:55:00 PM | rebozoby karolComment: Great colors and texture. If more than 20 percent of this shot was in focus, you'd have a good chance of a winner. (attempting a lighter, funner way of saying you need a wider depth of field, while stating the idea was GREAT!) 6 Swash |
| 07/26/2002 07:33:00 PM | Rusty Rubbish Receptacleby waltomlComment: Tom, this shot was definately the best of the rust genre. I know, you were after both the rust and the paint. (sort of a joke) Rust and other less than pleasant subjects are the hardest to "carry" votes. I vote on estetics, sometimes as much as the challenge itself. So, let's break this down a bit. Photo quality 8 it's not as sharp as I think it could be; Challenge 10 you've got texture running out your ears (really, look in the mirror!) Estetics 5 cool as it might be, I wouldn't hang this on my wall (maybe your wall, but...) No other glaring photographic mistakes, so I am going to leave your score where I started, 8. Generous, but that's me. Swash |
| 07/23/2002 07:20:00 PM | Velvet Antlersby bobgaitherComment: This is a pretty nice photo of opportunity. I love deer shots. Yes, they do have lovely velvetty horns, but even if I download this shot and blow it way the heck up, it's still pretty hard to see that much detail. The road behind the deers also conveys the sense of "tameness" in these two. 5 Swash |
| 07/22/2002 06:41:00 PM | Not as fluffy as he seems! by PointComment: Totally wonderful! (Is this a stuffed bird?) I got no complaints, issues or suggestions for improvement. I only gave four tens this week, this is one of them! 10 Swash |
| 07/24/2002 07:51:00 PM | Texture of Natureby huldahComment: I really wanted to like this shot. I submitted a feather also, but where do I start? Overall, this shot is dark. Then there is the glossy reflection, which makes me ask, where did you get this feather, from an oil spill area? Was this a painted feather? Oh my, could this be a leaf? (hadn't thought about that until now) I can't think of a type of leaf with veins this closely packed, it must be a feather. I started this shot out with a 5 (my I don't know what to do with this shot vote) and I am going to leave it there (as I still don't know). 5 Swash (please, don't be discouraged by my comments, I'm a silly little fool....) |
| 07/15/2002 02:12:00 PM | Sunsetby sohrComment: Gorgeous shot! Did you use a filter or photoshop to get the purple? (that couldn't have been natural, could it?) The colors are wonderful, deep and rich. 9 Swash |
