This is a lovely shot. Texture is present, lots of it. Were I to grade you simply on the photo, no challenge, this is a 10, very nice. As a demonstration of life's texture, it is still a 10. As a demonstration of THE concept of texture (making me think about texture), it misses the mark wide and would be a 4. I am going to split the different and score this texture challenge shot as 6. This is a very cool shot. I see the texture, but I feel that that texture is more from post processing than from the subject itself. This is still a PHOTO challenge. I am willing to bet real money the original photo barely resembles the above image. For a post processing score, you get a 10, for THIS challenge, I will go as far as a 5. If I am wrong with any of my assumptions, I will gladly take them back and double your score. Swash (Hint: this might have been a good candidate for an Admin Note)

I love cat shots! This is terribly nice. (neat tiger stripes, let me guess, the cat's name is tiger/tigger/or the like) Background is a little plain (-.5), hate to see you chop off the cat's behind (-.5) You had a 10 going here, but 9 will have to do. Swash (clean cat ears!!! we have mites! yuk!)

Yup, you're right, it cement! Although the patterns could be considered interesting, personally I find this shot about as exciting as paint drying. It's a well taken shot. Great focus, nice contrast with the shadows. 6 Swash

It could be the flash glare (too strong!), but it seems out of focus, too. The shadow at the bottom of the frame...why? Upright coin way out of focus, this needs a much wider depth of field. South Carolina is hard to see, too. Texture is there, of course, but not well demonstrated. Sorry, but I convinced myself to lower your score from 6 to 5. Swash

I see it, but I still don't understand it. This is a really nifty Macro! Soooo close!!! What is it? Why is the right side lighter than the left? (-1 point) I need to make a note to look at this after the Challenge week, gotta know what this is! The odd lighting is the only thing about this I don't like, so you stay at 9. (what IS it!) Swash

This shot is more interesting than I first gave it credit. After all, a papertowel? O.K. the biggest gripe I have is the depth of field. High angle of attack combined with Macro shots seem to be a problem for digi-cams. I have resorted to attempting to keep my Macro shots as flat as possible. Granted, I lose some in "interest" points, but easily solves the focus the entire frame issue. This could be a good topic for the forums.....6 Swash
