Paparazzi!by gsalComment: OK, I'm going through the Free Study submissions, purposefully finding those images I think are shot with a less conventional eye - this is one of those images! Thanks for offering something that isn't just DPC friendly eye-candy (though of course there's nothing wrong with eye-candy). I'll be picking one of these images for the Mu (most underrated) award:
Positives:Fabulous!!! Has gsal written all over it! The focus on the face here is just fantastic, it anchors the composition so well, with the other elements complementing but maintaing a supporting role. The toning here is perfect too. I also really like the stark highlights in the white hat and hood.
Critical stuff: Nothing at all.
Overall: For me, a perfect picture. 10. |

Positives:Wonderful light and use of highlight and shadow - full of contrast and colour. The natural framing works brilliantly and the overall scene is charming. I'm particularly fond of the window top middle.
Critical stuff: Nothing at all
Overall: An excellent image - very pleased to make its acquaintance. |

Positives:Fabulous composition - I'm loving the crop across the face; bold and effective. The sun is the star here (no pun intended!) but the posture of the model works really well too. I also think the coloration is just right - it manages to convey a sense of late evening warmth.
Critical stuff: Nothing really - I hope you don't get pulled up on entering a polka dot outtake.
Overall: A highly effective image which is more than the sum of its parts. |

Positives:Sometimes this search for the less conventional also yields images that span mass and niche appeal - this is one of those images. This is a very, very well executed image - seriously great lighting, excellent coloration and a great title too. The composition is excellent too.
Critical stuff: Not much, I'm not sure what I think of the slightly blurred lower flowers, but given that the surface is sharp, this must have been an artistic choice.
Overall: A very well crafted image which communicates a vision - I imagine that this is exactly what you set out to achieve. I hope it does well for you. It deserves to. |

Positives:So many interesting elements in this image - the deep perspective offered by the path leading all the way to the cityscape. The nonchalance of the figures in almost pure silhouette, the ashen tones and the blurry, old feel.
Critical Stuff: It might be my monitor but I'm seeing a lot of blocky artefacts in the sky.
Overall: A really compelling image, one that makes you want to linger to look - I also think the aspect ratio is brave and inspired. Excellent stuff. |

My city at nightby Delta_6Comment: Nice image - I'm particularly struck by the vibrancy of the colours in the reflection. |
