Inside Urban Lightsby PaulFrocchiComment: I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.
Positives: Really interesting POV - makes me tip my head back just looking at it! I particularly like the sort-of-blurry-flowness of the main column. You really get a sense of how close to one another these things are.
Critical stuff: The toning - perhaps you were maintaining detail in the columns but the low contrast in the image makes it looks a little flat.
Overall: A nicely seen image but for me the edit robs it of some needed drama. |

Butterflies Are Freeby colorcarnivalComment: I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.
Positives: This is a pretty image, particularly the coloration of the leaf and your subtle application of a vignette. The slightly tone mapped look works too.
Critical stuff: The bubbles, though a major contributing element of the image aren't as pretty as the leaf and there is something about the bubbles that looks a little unclean (by association, not actually).
Overall: A nicely composed image - well made. |

Urban Oasisby toddw62Comment: I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.
Positives: What an interesting composition - full of contrasts it seems to be. This stillness of the garden oasis contrasting with the rush of the fulling water; bathed in sunshine in some areas, steeped in shadow in others; bright coloration here, near monochrome tones there.
Critical stuff: I'm not sure if the figure is collaborating with you, if so, moving him back - taking his shadow off the white line may have improved the image ever so slightly.
Overall: A well crafted image - I like it. |

HeLp Me.....by MikeOComment: I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.
Positives: This image demonstrates great toning and the border is very well matched. The overall subject matter put a smile on my face and the execution is very good. The very narrow depth of field isolating the ducky, emphasising the texture in the carpet while ensuring the background clutter is steeped in mystery! In my eye the bulk above and to the right of the duck is a sleeping dog!
Critical stuff: The still discernible vertical and horizontal lines in the background are a little out of kilter - perhaps this was to emphasise the lack of stability in the duck's reckless wheeled endeavour.
Overall: An image I have enjoyed - thanks for offering it up. |

by RKTComment: This is my 2000th comment - at 1000 comments I visited a portfolio of work that I greatly admired, found an image I liked that had no comments and offered one. I'm here, at your portfolio at 2000 comments largely because of the following image:
Without doubt it is the image on DPC that I return to most often just to look at; and of course the overall quality of your portfolio (in terms of just flat out interesting images) is truly amazing.
And so for this photograph:
How apt that there are stars in the image because the scene seems to sparkle somehow, the bright light on her face catching a twinkle. There are so many elements I could point to that interest me - her stance, the Dean Martin picture, the shadowy foreground figure, skateboards(??) on the wall - all compelling. But most of all, it is the life you have communicated - the fact that it is in monochrome almost passed me by, so immersed in the scene I have found myself.
Anyway, I run the risk of becoming boring! It suffices to say that I am a fan! I hope you don't mind too much in being singled out in this way. I really enjoy your work.
Best regards
Paul |

Eavesdroppingby odriewComment: m going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.
Positives: What an interesting image! It actually took me a few seconds to see the bird, so compelling are the couple. I really like the coloration too - there seem to be two distinct sets of tomes to my eye, which I like.
Critical stuff: I think I'd have either corrected for the lens distortion or set the top of the ledge to bird sits on as my horizontal reference (though I can see the gap between the panes is vertical). The image perhaps lacks a tad of sharpness / depth of field but this doesn't hurt it too much.
Overall: A very nice image, full of interest. I'm glad you offered it up. |

Monet's Woodby JutildaComment: m going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.
Positives: This is a really beautiful image (have I seen it somewhere else it looks very familiar...). The number of close verticals suggest a double exposure, though looking more closely I don't think that is the case. I love the washed out colours with the vibrant red standing out and the water-colour-like greeny-blue wash in the background. I like how the whole image glows.
Critical stuff: Nothing at all.
Overall: A great piece of work which would look great on the wall. |

Beam Me Up, Orvilleby e10icusComment: m going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.
Positives: There is a diffused, plasticy look to this image that I like. It captures the feel of a toy somehow. There is enough information in the picture to maintain a viewer's interest but little enough to preserve some ambiguity. I particularly like the view we can see outside - right up to the tree line too.
Critical stuff: That diffused look I like could be construed as being a lack of sharpness.
Overall: An image that I find to be very interesting; I wonder how many people will stop and give it some time. |
