Top Of the Rocksby JeffryZComment: Landscape, wildlife, silhouette - this should do well!
For me, I really like the departures you have mixed in with the Free Study front page elements; the unusual contrast profile and the distinctive coloration.
Great work. |

Under Siegeby purpleredhedComment: I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.
Positives: How could I not comment on this one. I suspect I'll be seeing some more of this genre in the March FS too! Your colours are great and the touches of pink and orange contribute quite a lot. The reflection, vignette and the bright backlighting all elevate this beyond a simple shot of some toys.
Critical stuff: All of the above aside, there is only so much artistry to be gleaned from such a set-up.
Overall: It is what it is; I think your photographic skills have added a lot of value to this. |

Humayan's Tombby dougi555Comment: I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.
Positives: There is something about this image which has given me pause to take a longer look; the subtle coloration and vignette - the slightly tone-mapped appearance, the low POV. This is masterful work. I think you have offered a piece of work whereby you have both authentically captured the scene whilst stamping your own artistic license upon in. It communicates an old feel - partly as a consequence of the parchment like sky.
Critical stuff: Nothing at all.
Overall: A magnificent image - a potentially cliched tourist shot transformed into so much more in your hands. |

house of the rising sunby skewsmeComment: I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.
Positives: I love this! I love the blurry base of the trees and how there is a soft glow there and how line of your motion suggests a quick whippish move. The coloration is great too - it offers a sense of warm sun despite the evidently chilly scene.
Critical stuff: Nothing really - though I'm not too keen on the title.
Overall: Great stuff! |

Waiting for Winter to Endby bobnospumComment: I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.
Positives: An interesting shot - almost abstract in its composition, with the red barn acting like a block of colour. I like the stark white too - it gives a sense of complete coverage.
Critical stuff: The tree line - of course there's not a lot you could do with the composition but I wonder how selectively darkening the sky may have worked to de-emphasise the trees and allow the barn and snow to be placed into even more stark contrast.
Overall: A nice image; one that I'm pleased to have viewed. |

beware of the leopardby krnodilComment: I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.
Positives: An interesting abstraction of blur and texture. I like the way that this is so reduced down - distilled almost. No compromising with shades of grey - we'll have white and black and we'll like it! The motion blurring gives a sense of urgency and this is captured in your title and the radiation of the linear components lead us on, offering us a sense of direction and purpose.
Critical stuff: No suggestions to make - any changes would upset the balance of what you have created.
Overall: Obviously not everybody's cup of tea but I like it. |

Into the Marshby IvoryComment: I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.
Positives: Nice use of parallel lines; I wonder if this is a carry-over from that challenge? I do like the coloration of this image and I think the amount of tone mapping you have added suits the scene very well. I like the moody sky and the detail in the distant tree line too.
Critical stuff: I think scenes like these only have so much interest in them - once you have fully milked them they have little else to give.
Overall: A great job capturing an OK scene. |
