Positives: I really like the composition here, the curve of the belt offers great balance to the image. I like the texture of the metal too - this is well matched by your monochrome processing.

Critical stuff: given the limited interest that resides in the periphery of the image, a vignette may have helped to keep the eye on target.

Overall: An interesting image, not least because you have managed to create an artistic near-abstract from a subject of such menace.

Positives: Wow, if there was any more story in this picture it would be a novel! This is terrific stuff, the woman in the foreground looks distraught and I want to dwell on her but instead my eye is drawn away from her unfocussed face to the middle-ground man. He is indifferent to her; and by pulling our eyes away from her to him I feel complicit in his callousness. I don't want to ignore her, but I can't help it. The background woman is also an important element - she adds to the scene considerably since her presence ensures the viewer knows this is a public space. Amongst all this, we forget you, the photographer - but once we think about you, your camera and your presence - the viewpoint itself and what that means to the scene seem very important. I like your processing choices too.

Critical stuff: Nothing.

Overall: Super image. Great stuff.

Positives: I really like that you've entered an image of this type and I appreciate the vision behind the image. For me, the highlight of the image is the movement in the hands - that works really well.

Critical stuff: I think this is a 'nearly' image but I think it might have been more effective edited in a different way - my choices would have been higher contrast with a bit of grain and a vignette (and no nasty border). Having said that, perhaps you wanted to avoid that sort of look.

Overall: A very nice entry, but one that feels a bit sub-optinised to me.

Positives: Favourited this earlier, back to comment and vote. A clear 10 - no doubt. One of my favourite images I have ever seen on DPC. Masterful edit - such confidence to let areas blow, knowing how that would facilitated the anchoring of the eye to your subject. The high key, high contrast monochrome is inspired. The girl is delightful and looks so tiny compared to the hand. I suspect I have already favourited the photographer but I can't wait to see who this is.

Critical stuff: If I said anything here I would deserve to be banned from DPC.

Overall: Absolute top drawer stuff. I expect to see this on 1x too. Thanks for sharing this.

Positives: Great juxtaposition of elements, making the lantern appear moonlike. The architecture is interesting and there is enough story in the people to make them interesting subjects too.I like how you've handled / maintained the luminosity levels.

Critical stuff: I've never been a fan of the Topazzy type of editing - it always makes things look messy to my eye. The people are particularly afflicted.

Overall: Great composition, but for me, a suboptimal edit.

Positives: I like the way you have chosen to shoot this - the offset and rotation contributes things to the image which would have been lost with a straighter composition. Your colour handling is also effective, capturing an indoor feel. I also like the way that we can't help but try to count the storeys (10??)

Critical stuff: Not much - there is a finite amount of interest in this scene, but I like what you've done with it.

Overall: An effective image, made so by your composition choices.

Positives:Very intriguing - a nice spot through the trees and your dark, grainy, contrasty approach to the edit suits the subject really well. I particularly like the head shine! The whole composition makes me wonder where you were in relation to the subject; always a good thing to leave the viewer guessing.

Critical stuff: More often than not, I'm not a fan of (very) landscape orientations. I don't dislike this one but it hasn't changed my mind.

Overall: Nice juxtaposition of elements - very effective image.

Positives: Very nice street shot - interesting character with an interesting backdrop. The interplay between the owl and the girl works really well. I really like the arm in the window too. I'm normally not fond of centred compositions, but this works well.

Critical stuff: Not much - I think, subject-wise, there is only so much interest in this scene, nbut you have certainly made the most of what was there.

Positives: A bizarre scene - a good thing! Grabs the viewer's attention and makes us wonder what is going on here; what's the story. I like the eclectic dress of the guy on the right and the general mania of the shot.

Critical stuff: The technicals are a bit vanilla - large depth of field robs the characters of interest and the flash lighting is a bit flat.

Overall: Interesting but not one I'd want on the wall.
