Knew this must be you but I had assumed you had made some custom brushes. I had already given you a 10 but now that I have read your notes on 1x, I wish I could give you 11!

How long did you take?

I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.

Positives: Excellent title - it anchors the image and the back story. Great POV, inspired tones and plenty of mystery. It really does look dark over there! I'd really like to know what the surface you subject is standing on.

Critical stuff: The waxy smoothness is a little distracting.

Overall: Imaginative and effective. Nice job.

Positives: Noise aplenty here - but put to good use. The obscuring noise is curtain-like - makes us keep our distance and keeps them private - it feels like we are invisible to them as a consequence and as such it feels like we are looking at an authentic (and truly unobserved) scene. You have left exactly enough of the horse to assist the brain in making sense of the scene.

Critical stuff: Nothing really - it is an extreme image that should not be compromised.

Overall: Bold, effective stuff.

Positives: This is a beautifully constructed image - good enough for an advertising poster. The tones are perfect and the POV and DOF absolutely do the job.

Critical stuff: I think you could have shaved a little off the right side, so losing that structure.

Overall: Brilliantly done - I'd like to know what inspired you to take this perspective.

Positives: This is a thoroughly charming image with story that benefits from your POV; although we see the girl, we also share what she sees. The slightly blurriness of her hair and some dynamism and we sense her excitement in what the shop has to offer.

Critical stuff: Nothing much

Overall: Very nicely told image.

Positives: What amazing lighting - of course you know that shadow on the water is spectacular, but I also really like the bright highlights on the parasol. The overall scene makes for a wonderful canvas but the details peppered throughout the frame enhance the scene enormously.

Critical stuff: Perhaps that box thing at the bottom could have been cloned away...?

Overall: I like this a lot. Much more than the sum of its parts.

Positives: This should be HDR overkill but somehow you've pulled it off - the effect perfectly suits the image and cliche becomes surprisingly appropriate drama. The tones are wonderful and the pockets of sharpness towards the margins of the image work well to lead the eye.

Critical stuff: That dark streak of dark cloud on the left is a little distracting - it might have paid to clone some bright clouds in there to break it up a bit.

Overall: Very nicely made.

Positives: Wonderfully mystery with this portrait. Enough form for the brain to make sense of it without giving us a hint of distracting detail. I think the window for that feat is quite narrow and you have hit it perfectly. The simultaneous softness and starkness is quite magical.

Critical stuff: Perhaps, the top could be trimmed just a tad...?

Overall: Wonderful stuff.
