I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.

Positives: Great street-based image that benefits from your choice to keep it in colour. The foreground rain drops work really well, as does the motion blur of the people. The highlight of course is the cheeky title of your image top right - It anchors the frame wonderfully.

Critical stuff: I might have been tempted to suppress the yellow/orange coloration - the rest of the image has that slight cyan and red coloration I often envy in Leica M system images. The yellow detract a little from that.

Overall: A little gem.

Positives: Love the hook here - I see the column and then the building and then the birds! On spotting them the image comes instantly alive. It's like a visual magic trick. I love that. Once I was hooked, I found the windows compelling - imagining the stories behind each of them.

Critical stuff: Nothing really.

Overall: So much more than the sum of its parts. That's the trick of a really compelling image.

Positives: Scores highly on the 'what-the-heck-is-it?' index - mystery is always good in my book. It's a motherboard or perhaps a graphics card I think... I like how you've conjured up a sense of high frequency vibration like some machine at the moment it shifts in space time.

Critical stuff: It's a bold effort but I feel perhaps still bland... Picture of objects come across as lazy and although your treatment of the image is highly interesting the overall product is less so.

Overall: I commend your process but find the product to be a little lacking.

Positives: A slice of everyday (special?) day magic. You've shot with the eye of a film maker here - story over control. Although the tones are quite flat - this just adds to the sense of ordinary you have crafted.

Critical stuff: It's unfair of me but I do hanker for a bit more sharpness. I'm almost ashamed to admit it.

Overall: Masterfully understated.

Positives: There's something of the world in this one - you've pulled me outside. The clarity of the rain works well against the slightly dark scene and the figure's face, in shadow as it is, maintains a sense of mystery.

Critical stuff: The foreground grass, probably bolster by the rain looks a little crunchy.

Overall: From story to immersion. Excellent.

The days of the foregone Gyaban Blues in Expert challenges seem to be a thing of the past. I'm sure he'd be the first to welcome such wonderful competition.
