Curve junctionby hajekaComment: Leave it to the spatula to recognize his cousin, the whisk ;)
A nice and original take on the subject, surely, and rather interesting in its own right. Lacks the impact of many other entries, but is still worthy of appreciation. |

An Orchid Curlsby colorcarnivalComment: Hey! Congrats! Really liked this one. Sharpness where it ought to be, creamy tones where they belong... all in all a great shot. |

presence in absence by cutoutComment: I made a joke to bvy in the forums (and this might be you...Brian...) about subverting focal points purposefully in order to make the entire photo the focus. I think you've done that here somewhat, assuming that's what you mean by your title. But, I think the busy nature of the whites and the structures, their lack of any one that stands in front or more prominently than the others, really just pulls us into the hole, the only thing with continuity. In this sense, there is still focus, focus on a void, which doubles back to the lack of focus in the detailed areas, a wonderful corollary. Nice shot. My top so far in voting, probably will be at the end too. |

T-minus two EVby bohemkaComment: I really like how brooding this is. I'm also guessing that had you exposed properly for the foreground the subject (as it is in the final product) would have been close to blown as well, so this is interesting in that the underexposure shifts our concept of the subject matter. I can't help but think that if the foreground was exposed for, it would have been about the countryside, a typical pastoral scene. On the contrary, with your approach, we are left with a scene of dreariness, yet hope, the road delving into the future, towards the only light in a world of dark.
Reminds me, unsurprisingly, of the book by Cormac McCarthy The Road. Great shot. |

evolving tonesby bspurgeonComment: I really appreciate the various textures and tones in your photo. Much more interesting, visually, than many others. You filled the frame, emphasizing the subject with zero negative space, saying "there are 13 objects that fill this frame." |

fallingby cutoutComment: I like your abstraction here. The simplicity and focus on form works very well at conveying the topic in a fashion that is refreshingly removed from "here are 13 marbles I own." The abstraction strengthens the idea of having 13 as a subject matter, having removed the object's identity from things. Good job. |

Jesusasanaby pointandshootComment: Spooky, brooding. Tells a story far more than the other shots did, and yet ironically maintains more mystery than all the other shots as well. Very nice. |

mills on hills by BrennanOBComment: My favorite of the challenge. I love the shading on the hills, the gloomy sky and the vibrant grass. |

At Night We Dance by sir_bazzComment: As a whole, I voted down arranged and studio type shots in this challenge, because I thought conceptually they were a cop-out. There is little difficulty in finding 13 of any item and putting them together. This one goes a bit beyond that, having provided a story. I also really am a fan of your lighting. So, good job taking an oft repeated approach and making it your own. |

Slices of Lightby AllenPComment: This is a simple yet pleasing shot. I like the bit of shading you've left, keeping this as a duotone instead of a bw. One of my top pics. |
