Plate Umpby Man_Called_HorseComment: This is a wonderful attempt at an environmental portrait. He is aware that you are shooting it. There is enough information from the environment to define the subject, it is authentic. I wish the sun weren't giving you so many shadows of the face, and I would have loved to see everyone in "action" so to speak. |

The Bookwormby OdysseyF22Comment: This a a well captured shot of annoyance. But the green background tells me this is a posed shot. There is no environment, there are props, but they don't define the subject, they define the shot. Additionally, the rims of the glasses are cutting off the line of the eyes. |

-Pearl's a Singer-by kevrobertsonComment: I think my biggest problem is that I don't see the environment. The emotion in the face is fantastic, but this challenge was to see the subect in their environment. To communicate how the environment defines the subject and how they interact within that environment. You could remove the mike stand and change the angle of her hand and you have a great shot of grief. |

Natures Ownby TajhadComment: I really like this on many levels. The colors are wonderful, the mirror adds more interest to the shot and it is obvious that this is in a store. I think that the subject is getting lost, though. It would not have harmed this shot to sacrifice some of the vegetables for a tighter framing of the grocer...the mirror would still give you depth. Plus the lighting on the grocer's face seems off, there are a lot of shadows around his eyes. |

King of the Roadby HauxonComment: So is he a Police Officer? Or just a rider? Hard to tell from the distance of the shot. Additionally, I don't think the houses add anything to this. Too many shadows in the face. |

After the Long Rideby debitiptonComment: So the horse has been ridden, shouldn't she be brushing it down or removing the harness? These are just images that the title evokes. Not that this is a title challenge, but titles tell part of the story and if they don't match up just right, you lose the impact of the shot. And this shot has a lot going for it. There is a tenderness of relationship between the horse and the rider, the colors are wonderful, the texture in the gate... |

Peace Activistby SimmsComment: There is almost a sense of irony here. The b&w make this a very foreboding shot. It seems like it is a war zone instead of a peace rally. I like that, though. |

The Priestby TUBORGComment: I almost feel as if the Priest were added as an afterthought to this shot. You have the majority of this composition on the windows, thus that is what I see first. The windows are georgeous and you did a great job capturing them. |

The Traditionalistby e301Comment: I'm not sure this is exactly an environmental portrait, but giving you the benefit of the doubt, I will say that the focus is weird. I would expect a portrait to focus on the person and everything above the elbow is oof, to my eyes. The architecture is stunning and I would almost prefer to see this in a different challenge with nothing but the building and railing. |
