a great character study. excellent light with a very wide tonal range. the highlights a blown on the cup and his collar, but I think it still works very well in this shot because it is composed so well otherwise.

beautifully lit and well composed. I like how the symmetry of the 3 windows is offset by having a contrasting element (chair, chandelier, nothing) within them. very nice.

very pretty and well lit. the composition is off to me however, by having the left most flower cut off in the frame. I'd either rather see it entirely like the other blooms or have you crop in closer on all of them.

great details on the eyes and manibles. excellent color and texture captured on the front of the face. looks oversharpened to me though, especially by the second leg on the right side.

The Splash of a Kiwi

This is visually interesting to me but I'm not really sure what I am observing. Is the kiwi sitting on an ice pedestal? The top of the kiwi looks very feathered as if hasty masking was done in Photoshop. An interesting image.

outtanding lighting. This is what some of the other sunset entries are lacking - you show the fantastic colors of the sunset, but also have an iteresting subject being bathed in this light. well composed and well balanced.

Film Noir Gun Girl

fun lighting. has a George Hurrel, old Hollywood look to it. I'm not creazy about the way she is holding the gun. It looks forced and her hands are cut off in the bottom of the frame. Also, on my monitor, there is considerable banding in the lighting gradient on the background with a big visible blob at the brightest point that lines up with the gun barrel. The resulting effect, to me looks a little off because it seems that she should be looking at that spot rather than off to the side as she is. I will look at this on another monitor, but as this was my initial impression, it will be hard to overcome.
