Winter Wonderlandby KarenNfldComment: This is lovely and I too am surprised it didn't do better. I suspect it's the large area of shadow that has made the voting sink a bit. |

Fishing at Twilightby EstimatedEyesComment: Love this one - I think the blur is just right and the background is a beautiful watercoloury mess of greys, greens and blues. The composition doesn't bother me as such (we've both received criticisms for centered comp on this free study) but I think the direction in which the bird is moving somewhat negates the space behind it (if that makes sense) so for a greater interaction with the negative space it would help if the bird were towards the top right. Well done for such a brave entry, which you can see has not gone unappreciated! |

solace by librodoComment: It's when you break away from the shots of beautiful young women that you're so often recognised for (though they are always very well executed) that your work really shines for me. It's just a personal thing but I feel that shots like these carry so much more emotional weight - the complex expression, the hand that cradles him, the two little flies... A thoroughly deserving blue ribbon. |

Shore Upby posthumousComment: This one's a stunner. The vastness of the composition highlights the vulnerability and fragility of the child in an extraordinary way. |

Day-31-Disappointment.jpgby KenComment: I think you need to develop a thicker skin. I've got three images in voting at the moment - one is a pretty but essentially meaningless macro, the other two (more out-of-the-box monochrome shots) are in my view amongst the best photographs I've ever taken. No prizes for guessing which one's doing the best in the voting ;)
Just because an image receives a higher score it doesn't make it a better photo. The important thing is that it's a shot which you really like, and if some commenters like it too (or offer some useful feedback) then so much the better. Message edited by author 2007-12-31 17:28:11. |

Night Swimby bleuComment: I could look at this all day. Dark, brooding, mysterious yet delicate. Quite incomprehensible but a completely wonderful image. |
