Perfect exposure, great composition with bags of character. There's so much detail in here to hold my attention. I don't think you could have conceivably taken this shot much better - the lack of 'wow' factor prevents a really high score but high scores are overrated!

This is just terrific. I wasn't sure at first but now I like the fact that there's no definition between the snow and sky - it highlights the unknown into which the man is trudging to hopelessly. Wonderful stuff.

Wow, I don't know how you managed to get that close to the bird with that lens. There's a real sense of perspective and an interaction with the bird which is excellent. As has been said before, it's not sharp, due probably to the inadequate shutter speed/focusing issues. A sharper shot would obviously have scored better, and I would have gone for a wee bit more contrast as well.

There's not a lot I can add to the very constructive comments below - perhaps you could have made the sunlight on the rocks pop out a little bit more in contrast to the sky? The composition is nice though I wonder if you could have been a bit more daring and given us some negative space in the sky? Just an idea.

I like this. Our eyes are immediately drawn outside the frame as we share the dog's obvious curiosity. I would have liked to see this in B&W I must admit. This is never a shot that's going to do well on DPC, which I guess you knew already, but kudos for submitting it!

I'm not an expert on high key but as a general rule I think it works better for lighter subjects than contrasty ones. As a result the background looks overexposed rather than high-key. A little bit of USM (or more USM!) on the bird would have preferable as well I think. The capture itself is nothing short of remarkable and with some effective processing (this would work well in B&W you know) it's potentially a real winner. Well done!

I really like this one. The composition is brilliant - our eyes are caught by the sign then led to the building behind it that's shrouded a little in mystery by the DoF. If I had one criticism it's that it's a wee bit oversharpened, particularly visible on the top of the sign and on the branches. Frankly, I'm surprised this didn't do better.

Firstly, the B&W is contrasty and well-controlled, and the moment you've captured is a lovely one. My biggest gripe is that the grainy conversion doesn't suit the nature of the photograph - I would think this sort of look would be more appropriate for high-energy scenes, gritty street shots etc. rather than the subtler and more human moment you've shot here. I think it's this disparity that's resulted in the low score.

If I saw this thing on top of my car, my instinct would be run at approximately the speed of sound in the other direction! Kudos for getting the camera out and producing a fantastic shot!
