Jurassic Playby cloudsmeComment: "Drop your fear of candids this week and single-out a person in a crowd as your source of composition. Use minimal depth-of-field to your advantage to help isolate your subject, and as always, be creative."
While you have been creative and you have used minimal DOF to isolate your main subject you ignored the main idea which was, from my understanding, to take a candid in a crowd. I few toys isn't what I would call a crowd and it is debatable whether this is a candid rather than a posed shot. |

Peek-a-boo!by jmleliiComment: This is a nice image. It seems to me that the subject is isolated less due to minimal DOF and more by the fact that the viewer can't see the faces of the other sheep. This does isolate the subject from a crowd and I can see that minimal DOF was used but all the sheep could have been in focus and the main subject would still be isolated. I don't know which way to go on this because it doesn't seem like minimal DOF was the creative technique behind the photo. I do like the photo (although I feel like the main sheep's face could be a bit sharper). I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. |

Serenade on the riversideby srugoloComment: This is a very nice shot but two people strolling by does not a crowd make. Also, you used selective desaturazition rather than minimal depth of field to isolate your subject. Some of the background has been blurred but not enough for me to consider it minimal depth of field. At any rate, the couple are focused just as sharply as the flutist and the idea was to single out a single subject from a crowd. |

Just Waitin'by kevrobertsonComment: I like this but I'm not sure if it quite works for the challenge. The focus in the background is actually quite sharp and my interest keeps being drawn to the two girls. He seems to be isolated more by his actual distance from the crowd and the fact that he is sitting and everyone else is walking. If the challenge had been simply to create a candid shot in which you isolate a single subject this would fit the challenge but minimal depth of field was specified. |

Girl with Umbrellaby TallblokeComment: Nice. It's a candid, the umbrella adds some visual interest in terms of color and design (it also helps to isolate the subject) and this is definitely enough people to give me the sense of a crowd. |

Penguins '2006by lsmartComment: I'm not getting the sense of a crowd here. I think you were to close to the subject. To me, this doesn't show skill in isolating a subject from a crowd. |

Three's a Crowdby CalliopeKelComment: This set-up shot goes against the spirit of the challenge which was to "Drop your fear of candids this week" and single out a subject in a crowd. This certainly isn't a candid, it isn't even a crowd. It seems to be missing the point. |

Fish Marketby cabaComment: I kind of like this as a portrait but the two guys in the background don't really give me the sense of a crowd. |

In a world of her ownby LalliSigComment: I don't really see her as being in a world of her own, which to me implies that she is lost in thought, since she is on a phone. But that's just nitpicking about the title. I kind of like this. The thing I'm not sure about is that the blur looks like it was done with a filter which kind of ruins the effect a bit for me. I could be wrong--what is bothering me is that it looks like the floor is blurred in some areas and that doesn't make sense to me. I'm not against post-processing for effect, and I'm a fan of motion blur, but something about this just doesn't work for me. |
