Great shot. The gulls really make this special. I hate those oil rigs in the background (not a critique of you...of the oil rigs :) I used to live in Santa Barbara and they ruin the gorgeous views everywhere! This doesn't happen to be SB does it?

Oh, I really like strangeghost's idea but perhaps it wasn't an option with the lighting situation. Whatever you do with this scene you MUST keep that beautiful dappled light; it's magical! As far as the composition, it isn't bad but it isn't amazing. I'm not sure if there IS a way to make it amazing (by zooming in, stepping back, or otherwise); afterall, it's a tree. I have a lot of photos like this as well. They are good photos with good processing but they are missing something. The secret I have found is a very simple one: people! I could see this with the buddha searching for nirvana or a carefree child swinging. Oh, and don't worry I rarely have people with me either (or people I feel comfortable posing) so usually such shots are a special candid moment. Keep up the good work. Your post-processing looks great on this one.

I think this is a cool artistic shot that wouldn't fare well on here because it doesn't fall into the "traditional photography" genre.

That's a really photogenic building you've found. I agree about the grain. I would guess by looking at it that you shot it at 400 ISO. If you have a tripod you don't have to use a higher ISO but you may have to manually override your camera. The composition is good on this but some of the bottom parts are distracting. I would considerer cropping off the top or eliminating some with photoshop. I think you could get an excellent print out of it with some creative post-processing

I cannot believe how poorly my top pick did! The creative eye is lacking on DPC lately. Keep up the inspiring work.

So you actually took this while doing a switch 180 yourself? I am amazed that it worked! :) I'm gonna have to give that a try sometime. Congrats on a great image.

That bridge scares the hell out of me! I wouldn't go on it with all those people. Great composition.

I like the colors in this a lot. I would have brought out the shadows/lighting in the foreground more or made it completely black.
