I feel like an outsider. The image is slightly disturbing, awakens disturbed feelings within. The water is inhumane. Thoughts that spring to mind. Locating places to photograph that evoke such feelings requires a careful eye.

Although deserted, abandoned, un-peopled, these bricks have a certain dignity brought about through age. You remind me not to overlook such simple objects and compositions.

You teach me that jigsaw fragments of life, placing objects a little out of context, is an interesting way to reduce a wide image to something personal. It's a good tool to have in the visual tool box.

Viewing the viewer and his / her point of focus is always interesting, you teach me. The interest in the intimate view most often makes up for accidental lack of quality in an image (due perhaps to hand held, under - or over exposed photos).

You remind me that the rich deep dark blacks and the creamy whites of a good black and white photo really make for classy images. Visually delicious.

The rich out of focus background and the direction of the hoops creates a harmonic composition. You remind me that composition is made up of many elements vying for attention and some working to enhance each other.

Week 2: Old Pinola

Your photo reminds me of what I think of as the "leak points" or doors out of the image. Here there are two; the upstairs, and the downstairs back. The way out looks bright. There is some sort of symbolism at work there, visual metaphors. It's a fascinating location. Some would drape it with semi-nude humans. It's pretty good as it is.
