I shot this originally for the abandoned challenge but ended up using a much more boring photo that I thought was more DPC friendly (I was wrong of course). This is an old house in Pinola, Mississippi. I really liked this photo for some reason..it think because of the light at the end of the stairs that really makes you wonder where in the world it goes!

This was shot at iso 1600, but I added my own cleaner noise :) I thought it suited the subject well.

Not to much processing done..converted to b/w using photoshop's "black and white" command and burned the wood on the floor to give it some balance with the dark ceiling.

Truly a great find and love the lighting here. My only thought is you appear to have shot from a standing position and feel a lower angle would give the shot a little more oomph? its kinda clinical as is to my eyes.

What Melethia said. (Firewood! How she know?) Also where the very dark balances the lighter whites a transparency is somehow made. (Maybe echoes of semi-nude humans?)

Your photo reminds me of what I think of as the "leak points" or doors out of the image. Here there are two; the upstairs, and the downstairs back. The way out looks bright. There is some sort of symbolism at work there, visual metaphors. It's a fascinating location. Some would drape it with semi-nude humans. It's pretty good as it is.

Nicely framed with the stairs running across the photo. The wood littering the florr and the satirs to nowhere are great.
Is that a carpet over the stairs? it does add to the photo a lot.

Looks liek it's seen better days. It does have a sense of mystery.

interesting structure with lots of interesting elements. Somehow comp seems static to me, but not sure how to add more motion. LG

Now those would be some workout stairs. The seem to go on forever. The lighting works great here. Wonder if they plan to fix this house up. Would be cool.

The first thing I think of is "look at all that firewood!". Heh! Seriously, though, I like the strong diagonal comp and I think the noise is ver well done, since it doesn't appear to me to be added in post - it just appears to be appropriate for the photograph and implies a low light situation. In addition to the top of the stairs, the doorway beyond is another point that beckons further inquiry.

This is really my kind of shot. i love the tones, but I love the composition more. The diagonals are very powerful. I too wonder what is up those stairs. (Did you go up by any chance?)

I love this photo. Lately, I have been so drawn to photographs showing real life in its imperfect state. It's so raw and real. I love the perfect amount of added grain to make it even more dramatic. The processing is beautiful. I love the doorway in the back that gives us a window into this old old place going on forever in its abandoneness.
