Almost missed the photo in the background at first... like the contrast in colors.

2 people have now picked this as their least favorite from your portfolio in the thread that is going on... but I kinda like it!

Wow, you ended up with a lot of comments here. I like the minimalism in the shot, but it needed a bit better lighting to come off the way you probably wanted it to. Someone pointed out the shadows under the mouthpiece for instance. I'm not an expert with lighting, but trying to light something this wide, maybe reflecting some light upward onto a reflective surface that shined back down on the flute would have worked? These basic editing challenges are much harder because you can't make those fixes in individual spots with the post processing. Go team D50!

As an afterthought... I think this also feels backwards to me, since I would hold the flute with the mouthpiece at the left if I were playing it. Might not make for the keys looking as neat though. Hmm.

Well, those are some interesting comments :P I thought this looked a bit 'snapshot-ish' too, but I was happy that the photographer had at least thought to put the boy in front of a whole background instead of just wherever. It does have a soft feel to it overall, and I think if he had been playing with his left hand on the guitar as well, it might have given a better impression? Cute kid though... he looks like he'd be handy to have around as a model for other challenges if he's such a ham! Go team D50!

Ok, I'll admit, I still don't really get this one :( It's strange that your average of the commenters was only a 3.8... guess the ones that didn't like it told you so! They have some valid points, and mostly for me it was not really getting it (but not wanting to claim DNMC), and the odd view of the bird waddling away from you. It's a nice convertion to b/w with a nice range of tones though. Go Team D50! :)

I thought I recognized you! Wish you'd put in the photographers notes how you did this one. The dramatic sky is nice and it's a creative concept. You probably got a few low votes because people thought it wasn't legal (though, you had it validated I thought when I saw it in voting). I think the two things that I didn't like most about this was the size perspective... your face seems out of proportion to the landscape (if that is possible), and that the music notes aren't entirely black. But I love the creativity here... (and you even got a favorite out of it!) Keep it up! GO Team D50! :)

I think some of the other commenters hit on some of the things that would have improved ths shot. I gave it a 5 personally... it's something I see all the time when I'm out hiking, and I still haven't found a unique way to shoot the stuff. More of a focal point might have helped if there was one really neat section of the fungi perhaps? Keep submitting.. GO Team D50! :)

Unique shot for the challenge. I'm not sure that the birds are very helpful here, I might have waited a bit until they left if that was possible. Something about the shot feels crooked, but the horizon seems straight.. maybe from the diagonal lines of the bridge.

Nice depiction of love... The background it just a tad too bright for me since you're losing parts of the shoulders and her hips into the white, and it's also very contrasty (is that a word?) compared to the shadows of her face.

Nicely done.. I like the b/w tones here, but the child's arm almost gets lost into the bright background. Thanks for cleaning up under the fingernails first.. nothing worse than dirty fingernails in a picture!
