Baba au rhumby NikonJebComment: Good atmosphere and portrait but more film-noir than chiaroscuro in my view. Harsh light and strong contrast to create an atmosphere, but it does not do much to emphasise and bring out the shape of his face. |

Lily DSC_1973by JCrest01Comment: You have made it difficult for yourself to use such a bright object in such a small part of the total image. In my view the light is a bit too harsh. You have maintained both highlights and shadows and the overall shape comes out nicely, but if taken closer you could have shown more texture and made the transitions more gradually. |

Calla-brationby digifotojoComment: Very nice how the light fully follows and emphasises the shape of the flower and how it highlights the surface textures. The only comment I have is that you could have used a bit of reflection (using paper or styrofoam board) on the left part of the green stem, just enough to separate it from the background, and you could have removed that bright patch ( a leave?). Currently it drops away quite suddenly into the shadow and then there is this bright light patch. |

Times are Hardby LuciemacComment: I like the harsh light here to emphasise the rough characteristics of the mans face and to show the textures in both face and hair. Enough reflection from the front/left to still maintain details there as well, without distorting the balance. Only thing maybe : the glasses, would it have been better to show a bit more? Not sure. |

Wistful by grahamgatorComment: I really like the right part of the image, up to the vertical line crossing her earring or across her shoulder. Especially in the face there is a nice transition from light to shadow that is still soft enough to match and emphasise the shape and softness of the face. But the too strong light from the left onto her back and shoulder and the shadow on top of her shoulder distorts that shape in that part of the image. It looks to be a bit strange bulb is you just isolate your view on that part. Cropping the image vertical across the shadow on top of her shoulder would have worked in my view. Still a good one in this challenge though. |

Matchesby DistantColoursComment: Nice image but does not have anything to do with chiaroscuro in my view, i.e. the use of light to shape an object. |

Defining the shapesby SistoComment: Using two light sources from opposite directions does not improve the outline of the shape. For example the breasts hardly look round in this image. On her right breast there is a strong light from below that bounces against the part shaped by the light from above. Her left breast shows a strong transition from light to dark. Only the lower part of that breast shows some light that emphasises the round shape. Her stomach area looks flat with no shapes emphasised. |

Elegance by LevTComment: The light on the front of he face and shoulder is very nice, drawing the outlines. But in my view the transition from light to dark is too harsh for the shape of her face and then the light from the left is too strong again. Rather then a light (or reflector) from the left I think a slight reflection from the direction of the camera could have filled in some too strong shadows and emphasised the round shape of her cheeks and face. |

attitudeby tangueraComment: I like the picture and the depth created by the light from the left. I think I would have preferred the backlight on the right to be outside of the frame. |
