Rest In Peaceby meowComment: Catching the flag at half mast certainly helps. I wish the tombstone in front had not been cropped off. |

The Balance.by thedarkposeComment: I understand what you are trying to say here but my own experience gets in the way. When I try to balance, I feel under pressure not to do anything that would upset the balance. I suppose that if you practice yoga long enough, you can get a sense of peace from a balance posture. |

the sirensby krnodilComment: Karen,
I also commented on your Dream image:
You have entered a lot more challenges than I have; I don't need to tell you that this is not the kind of image that does well on DPC. Yet, as the positive comments you got on "Dream" indicate, there are a number of us here who appreciate this kind of work.
My reaction to this is very much like my reaction to "Dream": I really like the image but I don't get any deeper meaning that would take it to a higher level. What I see is a bee on the left and flowers on the right. At first glance, the bee is not connected with the flowers, but the arc of darkness at the top brings the bee back around to the flowers. The effect is very powerful.
But is this all there is to this photo?
In looking a just this image, I don't see anything that would bring me back for a repeated look. But now I have seen three of your images that I think of as a series: the sirens, dream, and fade. The whole effect of these is much greater than the sum of the parts. I'm looking forward to seeing more.

dreamby krnodilComment: I like the feel of this shot. As posthumous said, it explodes. My eye was drawn to what I took to be the center of the explosion, the middle of the largest trunk. There is not much there, so I get the feeling that something is happening behind the tree where I cannot see it. What it could be is a mystery because the rest of the image shows a quiet forest scene.
What I don't get from this image is a sense that I understand some meaning in it. Why is there an explosion in the woods? Did you have a deeper meaning that you intended? It isn't necessary for the viewers to get the same meaning you had, but images that are rich with possible meanings are often the most successful.

Looking Backby MaryOComment: The snow and fence certainly add to this.

Bicycle part hellby purpleflutterby13Comment: I love this! I'm not sure what is going on here--but that is part of the charm.
You said on your profile page: "Current thought: I'd like to add more meaning to my photos." I think you have succeeded here. Some people might say that the meaning was in the sculpture you photographed, not something that you added to it. But I think you have added something to it by the way you photographed it.

Ball of Lightby Monique64Comment: I thought this was a wonderful image. I get a great sense of action at night. I'm not sure what is going on here--but that is characteristic of the experience of night.
I gave the image a 10. I really love it. But I seem to be the only person who gave it a 10. I can understand why this image did not do well in a DPC challenge called "Night Shot"--it certainly is not a typical night image. But among those who tried to push the boundaries, I thought this was the best.

Still Life In Motionby athena8Comment: Yes, this is in motion--it is not still. But it evokes a strong feeling of stillness. It is a very quiet scene in spite of the gentle breeze flowing through the trees. This is a powerful image because you have captured psychological stillness in an image of motion.
A more dynamic setting would not have worked as well. Be glad you are in a podunk town.
