If there's anything, I am not enthusistic of the composition. Maybe having the subject a bit more on the right, so that you could have some more blank space on the left, would have given some space for her look to go through. Or maybe cropping out the right side of the image, cutting away the earring, would have better drawn the attention on her face. Just my thought. Anyway one of my favourite images of the challenge. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 12/31/2008 05:12:48 AM | Granddaddyby freakin_hilariousComment: Very good photo, I like the high key and the not perfeclty centered composition. I only wish the eyes were fully open, as they are looking down I feel I miss the object they are looking at. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 12/31/2008 05:10:14 AM | Rememberingby whiteflyerComment: I think this one is my favourite of the challenge... quite odd, as it does not show the face as a portrait should tipically do!
But nonetheless the composition, the purple color of her coat, the black stones, the shallow DOF, the perfect height of the sun, all together make this picture a meaningful portrait. Very nicely done! | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 12/31/2008 03:30:06 AM | Look Both Waysby CNovackComment: Very nice shot, I really like the line drawn by the branch and the different orientation of the frogs, which somewhat adds balance to the curve of the branch. It is also nice that the wood is green on the left and brown on the right!
I also like the leaf, I don't think it is distracting, it gives the image something which makes it more interesting and less symmethrical, even though it shows two strange hues of green that look like an artifact (maybe due to the low light?).
I am only a little bit disappointed that the lower frog is not perfectly in focus, I think it is the only thing that makes this a good picture and not a great one.
Anyway, congratulations! | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 08/28/2008 09:39:34 AM | Purple Royaltyby LydiaComment: I did not vote in the challenge but I think I would have thought the following.
The important things are ok (focus, color, details) so you get minimum 5. An extra point for the wonderful frog and overall creativity: 6.
Then... nothing else! For me the most distracting and ugly thing of this picture is the purple in it, it's a horrible background for your subject. Had it been yellow or blue (or even green) I would have liked the photo so much more!
But if the biggest thing that does not work in a picture is the only reason why that picture was submitted in a particular challenge, well, I would not vote any higher than 6.
Please keep on shooting frogs, you do wonderful pictures!
especially this one... | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 08/30/2007 03:38:22 PM | "Hmmm, did you say DPChallenge?"by wildirisComment: That's a wonderful pose! And the title is just fantastic :) I really like this picture a lot, even if there is something strange about the focus (the eyes are not in focus, but the back is, and its right "arm" on the foreground is in focus too! How could that happen?).
But I don't care the focus, I love it! | Photographer found comment helpful. |

| 05/07/2007 06:41:30 PM | Breast Cancer.by Dona_kComment: I will add my comment to the many I'm sure you received... this picture is painful to look at, surely not as painful as being the model, and I think that this will make people vote it low. I'm giving it a 6, because I think that the editing is very good, as it gives the image a non-real touch, which is so much necessary to look at it. Taking a picture of the breast only would have given the image more of a symmetry taste, but I think that seeing more of the body gives it a sense of history... the model is sadly and courageously reveiling her secret, she is shy, tired and hoping, and I can see all of this even without seeing her face. Her pose is so eloquent!
The subject is a very hard to photograph and to see. I think that a different shot could have made it easier to look at it, maybe trying to hide a little bit more of what we don't want to see. But in that case it would have been completely different and maybe the picture would not have been as powerful as it is. Anyway I think that a picture should be a pleasant thing to look at, and this is not. I hope she will do well and that her difficult path is over. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

| 05/07/2007 06:00:27 PM | Sunrise Waves by hotpastaComment: What to say? Congratulations, even if I liked more another shot in this challenge, the blue ribbon is good to balance the one that you deserved SO MUCH and didn't get... I still love your hair entry very very very much! Hope you will not think I am unpolite not paying to you the compliments you deserve on this image and focusing my attention on another one ;)
Anyway, you really are a great photographer, I look forward to see more of your work! Continua così! | Photographer found comment helpful. |
