This was one of my higher scores (7) - not sure why it didn't do better (those beautiful clouds were perfectly exposed, imo.) It did occur to me that there was an awful lot of everything in the image, but I couldn't decide what could be cut out as unnecessary (sort of like a Mom with too many children - which ones could be removed???!!!)

Yeah, the foreground did you in on this one (watch those darned fence posts and grasses when shooting! - always a pain for me, too.) Regardless, it was one of my high scorers - the clouds beat out many of those that ranked higher, imo.

One of my higher scorers, but yep - that unleveled horizon didn't help the image any - nor the little-too-bright clouds in the upper right area. But, on the whole - this should have ranked a lot higher than it did.

This was one of my higher scorers (that tree is wonderful, and the clouds reigned!) But, darn it - I wish you had answered the location question! It looks like a Lake Huron or Ontario beach shot (especially, with the freighter on the horizon.) Not knowing places and id'd buildings, etc drives me nuts. lolll

I left a detailed comment during the Challenge because it's a wonderful shot. To me, it's worth working on a little more. The curvatures of the water and sand areas are terrific. You may not have ranked highly in the Challenge itself, but with some tweaking, it would be be print-worthy, imo.

I totally emphasize with your sense of discouragement - judging results sure confuse the heck out of me most weeks. But, keep working on it - the Challenge still presents a good learning experience. Regardless of where you place still offers you the opportunity to compare your picture against others - what appeals and why. Learn from that.

Cripes - voters confuse me! Clouds are the star of the show, not blown-out, surrounded by fascinating silhouettes (loved the jagged shapes against the softly rounded clouds, btw!) and topped off with that bird for a teeny accent piece. For heaven's sake, what more did they want???!!!! lollll This was one of my highest vote-getters! an 8

Moon flower

Love the 'hole in the sky' look to this (all leading back to the perfectly shot moon.) I just wish the moon was a little more off-center. Bet this score high, though.

Surprised that this didn't rank higher.

I scored this a 7 - the gradients from the various colors and tones of the clouds reminded me of the burl woods (?) woodcrafter tables, etc found in our shops Up North.
