Good morning!by dwterryComment: Bird is overwhelmed by the detail and colour of the yellower sticks in the foreground. Image also seems slightly oversharp or overcontrasted? I can't see halos yet, something doesn't feel quite right about it. Composition works reasonably well. |

Nestingby sbridgwaterComment: Quality issues are the main problem for me here - there are pale halos around the dark edges, the focus doesn't seem great either. Nor is the silhouette ideal as there is too much foliage competing with the bird. The border is also not appealing to me. |

Cunningby ACheltonComment: The appeal of the shape of the bird in flight is lost because of the dark backdrop of the tree. For a shot like this to work for me, you'd need to have repositioned yourself to get a clean sky background. |

Downtownby KonadorComment: Wooo thar - watch out for those jaggies. They can kill a human from 20 paces you know!
This is a great picture - really like the inclusion of the round sign in the foreground and then the way you have a middle ground and a background. Composition rocks. Great detail in the sky. Overall way too dark in processing.
Cool though! |

Scaleby e301Comment: Composition here is really incredibly strong isn't it? That combined with the detail in the texture just blows me away. nd yet I'm just looking at a spanner! Will wonders never cease? Nice work! |

Wear a belt - or wear a tagby alithenakeComment: I am commenting on this image in a reaction against the attempt by some to limit the content of DPC to images that conform to their idea of acceptable. This one isn't about suicide but it does deal with the unpleasant issue of death, it depicts a corpse and it would no doubt be classified by some as an unsuitable subject for artistic photography.
That said, it's not as brutal in it's depiction as some images and has therefore faired well with the voters.
I like the starkness of the message, though the angle of the tag and the size of the writing makes it hard to read and absorb it. I wonder if it would work better with the tag in the same position byt other way up? I assume it's a home made tag so could be made up with the hole to the right hand side of the label (when viewed right way up)?
The use of light and shadow to isolate the sole of the foot is incredibly effective as it leaves the rest to the imagination - often the most effective tool of all. The toning also adds to the impact as it really evokes that mental image of the coldness of death.
The decision element of it is evident if one thinks about it and not as forced as many of the entries in the challenge. |

ROPE!by lwphotographyComment: I am commenting on this image in a reaction against the attempt by some to limit the content of DPC to images that conform to their idea of acceptable.
This is unusual in that the image itself conveys indecision rather than simply conveying an action about which there was presumably some indecision. On that front, it meets the challenge far, far more accurately than most entries. I also like the grittiness of it, the imperfection of the composition and the motion of the "corpse" all add to the feel of the final image. What I dislike about it is the fact that for me, it misses the essential issue of suicide. Isn't the decision usually about whether or not to do it rather than how? Certainly the more emotive aspect is that battle between the instinct to survive and the utter conviction that life isn't worth living. _How_ to show _that_ battle is another question altogether! |
