Get Well Soon (we're all praying for you)by MarkComment: Greetings to you and Calvin from the Critique Club!
He's a perky little dude, and you've taken a very appealing photograph of him. Obviously this was your intention, but Calvin's praying for the recipient's safe recovery seems to me all the more effective because he actually seems to have an anxious expression on his face! Now you may say that I've just been looking at the photograph for longer than was good for me, and thus I've begun to see things, but he definitely does look worried and concerned to me, so there. Anyway, this image is not high art, and you didn't intend it to be. So you don't need any guff from me about composition, or tonal balance, or any of that stuff. That's not the point of your shot. What it is is a very competent and engaging shot of a nice little critter, and also a legitimate and original take on the challenge theme. |

Home Baseby grahampComment: I've taken a heap of shots at this airport, but never one as well-constructed and meaningful as this (I still call 'Straya home!) Terrific image, combining a familiar skyline & a familiar Skippy to bring a tear to all Oz eyes ... mate. |

grapesby GeeeComment: Lovely, lush image of these gorgeous grapes. Already I'm thinking about having a glass of their future! It's a juicy, tactile photograph and a very good idea for the challenge theme. Well done. |

Tenacious Lifeby olddjComment: Well done for having an original thought! It's an OK photograph, but a terrific idea (which I think is the more important of the two). |

Stairway to ...by Ice-Tea-1983Comment: There's something appealing about it. Nice abstract, graphic quality; symmetrical but not! Provokes the viewer into thought (assuming the viewer is capable of such) ... and that's a very good thing. |

Puffby aznymComment: This is an exquisitely paradoxical image; few elements, simply composed, and executed (especially in post-processing) with restraint. Paradoxical because these modest ingredients nevertheless result in an image loaded with interest and intellectual challenge for the viewer prepared to make the effort. Those not so prepared will, alas, satisfy themselves with some carping about the wires. |

The Beachby marboComment: It's well conceived and well composed. A good idea simply but effectively executed. |

After the Harvestby TallblokeComment: That's an original idea for the challenge theme; so much more interesting and thoughtful than a shot from the base of a tall tree or towering building. Very nice composition, too. |

Picnic in Cathedral Parkby ElemmennopeComment: Very thoughtful take on the challenge theme, and well executed, too. Plenty of scope for all sorts of allegorical interpretations of this image, but for now I'll just say it's very intelligent and effective. |

Journeyby LongreachComment: I feel like I should be able to figure this out. Best guess is wine, which would fit with the "from the ground up" theme. Could also be brewing. It's a very beautiful photograph, in any case ... love the lighting in the barrel store, the fine detail visible on the mezzanine floor, and the silky smooth appearance of the mixing tank. It's a very good example of meticulous exposure control. |
