Ok this will be confuzzling. A kiwi critiqueing a kiwi who is calling Sydney home base? They haven't annexed us as the 8th State yet ... mate :)

First Impression:
Too busy and confusing with several elements competing for attention. The commenters have gone for this also. The sky is attractive and probably the most powerful element in the shot. The scoring is pretty good for this image as it had possibilites yet to be unleashed.

Composition:
You've probably got it by now - the composition hasn't really worked. The question is, where does it work? Unfortunately, it seems to work best when you loose all of the foreground tarmac area. When you do that, you then get stuck with the horizontal tailplane so you end up having to crop that out too. Actually it can be done and may be better - or just a different shot.

Just as an exercise,

Colouring:
The filtering (polarising?) or post-production on the sky and buildings is a great effect. There's a solidity and depth to those areas in contrast with the brightly lit vertical tailplane that really appeals. My feeling is that this aspect of the image is what pulled in the scoring points.

Overall
The idea had possibilities and to be fair, within the confines of airside security, you don't have a lot of options in where you can compose a shot from. It probably could have been enhanced with some brutal cropping although it's hard to throw away precious parts of your shot.

Too many subjects. The tail, the tip of the wing, the cityscape. My eye is wandering all over this shot.

Interesting picture. A bit too much going on with it. Would like to see the plane or the city but both is difficult. Love the clouds and sky. Great colors.

I've taken a heap of shots at this airport, but never one as well-constructed and meaningful as this (I still call 'Straya home!) Terrific image, combining a familiar skyline & a familiar Skippy to bring a tear to all Oz eyes ... mate.
