Challenge: From the Ground Up II (Basic Editing III)

This wasn't the shot I intended to enter at all but I got to the park late and the sun set much earlier than I expected. This was one of the only photos I took before the light was gone behind the nearby hills. My planned shots were too dark and just blah; this one was a happy surprise. I'm standing beneath a bridge looking up at the supporting arches. Because I'm on a sloping hillside/staircase, the camera is also able to look down. I like the repetitive nature of the arches, the leading lines curving from the ground up to the apex, and the tiny people giving scale and drama to the scene.

There's some editing I would do if this wasn't a basic challenge -- like that telephone pole -- but it is.

It's just not fair this one ended with 5,4 avarage score. I can see why people thought it doesn't meet the challenge, they expected thet every photo must be taken with camera glued to the ground. I guess peole have a lack of imagination, those arches lead my eyes from the couple to above... great compositon and perspective... I would rate it 9. Digitalnight told you good, go clone out that thing in the bottom right corner, print it and hang it to a wall. :)

I can understand the DNMC remarks.
Beyond that, there are a few elements which a painter would of omitted, the telephone pole and the whatever in the last archway.
The other problem I see is that in B&W the tonal range of the second acrh blends into the trees to much for me.
I find I always want to see the color version. Let me add great eye. This is the type of shot I really like to see.

I still think this is a great photo, I believe if you had entered this in anything but Ground UP, it would have done fantastically.(top 10 in perspective) I think the fact that you scored pretty decently even though so many said DNMC show that this is a great photo, and most people thought that also. Some people are pretty strict on the interpretation of challenges, something to keep in mind when entering I guess. Your given score means nothing about the quality of the photo. It stands on it's own as a great picture.

I agree with Digitalknight, this is a terrific photo. I think there are a great many elements to be discovered if you take the time. My favorite is the repeating arches, each inside of the next. The picnicing couple in the photo. This one I really can't offer any improvement critiques. One reason this probably didn't score higher is that voters were looking for photos with an exaggerated upward perspective. It meets the challenge in my opinion, its from the ground up and has dramatic effect.

this is a terrific shot. it pains me to read the close minded comments made on this photo - please don't let the amatuer comments on this discourage you. What do they know?

Go remove that phone pole, and go make some money with this, or print and frame it and give it to a friend - the world is a little better for you having taken this, go share it

A very nice photographe, respecting the topic in its own way, as the ground is there and so is the "top"'

Very thoughtful take on the challenge theme, and well executed, too. Plenty of scope for all sorts of allegorical interpretations of this image, but for now I'll just say it's very intelligent and effective.

Nice capture in B&W, but think it fits the theme. The tree? in background looks a little creepy that almost works in this composition

What beautiful light! And those gothic arches...the way they echo...so intriguing...I love the way they frame the couple having their nice little romantic picnic...so pretty...an image that tells a story if we let it.
